Make sure it's unplugged, Boz. ?

Of course! I shall drown it. Many thanks

You have to make absolutely sure the data cannot be retrieved, Namsnanny

I know nothing about tech, but I have a question. Why do you need to do anything if it is unuseable?

Next if it is necessary to destroy the computer, cant it be put in a bucket of water?

Oh I've just seen your previous post.
If it's unusable, take out a hammer and smash the hard drive!

I think this is how you wipe a hard drive on a Windows 10 PC. However, never actually tried it.

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Reset this PC > Get Started > Remove everything > Remove files and clean the drive

Thanks Hetty but mine is unusable; damaged. Not fit to be passed on.

I donated my old one, here, and they erase the data from the hard drive - saves having to smash it:

How do you close down an unwanted computer other than taking a hammer to it.
