Chatgpt. How very scary is this?

This AI ‘bot’ is apparently causing concern that it will be used by students to write critiques etc. It will also compose letters and explain things. I asked it to tell me, in rhyme, how to be a good grandparent. Less than one second later….

andparent

To be a good grandparent, it's easy to see,
You'll need to show love and care, unconditionally.

Spend time with your grandkids, and listen with care,
Support their dreams and hopes, and be there to share.

Give them your wisdom and knowledge to grow,
Teach them your values and things they should know.

Remember to have fun, and be silly and play,
Create memories they'll cherish each and every day.

Be patient and understanding, and offer advice,
Help them through challenges and give them your nice.

Respect their parents, and their ways of raising,
Be a team player, with your love never fading.

So cherish the moments, as time passes by,
For being a good grandparent, will make them soar high.

Hungary are using this technology to detect breast cancer tumours. The technology is used along side the Dr.
The detection rate has gone up 13 1/2 %.

I like it!

Couldn't help thinking of this. The Chairman and the bot have much in common.

What The Chairman Told Tom
by Basil Bunting

Poetry? It’s a hobby.
I run model trains.
Mr Shaw there breeds pigeons.

It’s not work. You dont sweat.
Nobody pays for it.
You could advertise soap.

Art, that’s opera; or repertory—
The Desert Song.
Nancy was in the chorus.

But to ask for twelve pounds a week—
married, aren’t you?—
you’ve got a nerve.

How could I look a bus conductor
in the face
if I paid you twelve pounds?

Who says it’s poetry, anyhow?
My ten year old
can do it and rhyme.

I get three thousand and expenses,
a car, vouchers,
but I’m an accountant.

They do what I tell them,
my company.
What do you do?

Nasty little words, nasty long words,
it’s unhealthy.
I want to wash when I meet a poet.

They’re Reds, addicts,
all delinquents.
What you write is rot.

Mr Hines says so, and he’s a schoolteacher,
he ought to know.
Go and find work.

Re Nice Biscuits. Your comment made me laugh, well okay, giggle so much I dropped My Nice Biscuit into the mug of tea I was dunking it in. Only to learn that it’s daft to attempt recapturing it with a fork.
Ps. Shouldn’t poems written by this invention be made by law to only be printed out if copyright acknowledged?

I do like biscuits but not Nice and not custard creams.

Perhaps the AI bot can write a poem of sorts about biscuits.

Aero engineers on the technical-designer end of things up and coming use this technology a lot. This bot learns as it goes and is not perfect but can do tasks that are time-consuming.... BUT, IT NEEDS EDITING by a human being, which saves a lot of time when reporting to the FAA for all of their demands and requirements. Industry is understaffed due to lack of qualified professionals and praise goes to the bot's ability to reach deadlines on time. In the right hands, its capacity helps create lifesaving technology that is used in times of catastrophic events caused by weather and war. Amazing really if you think about it. Intention is everything.

I can easily tell when a student at school tries to pass off someone else's writing as their own. It's just a case of knowing their individual style. The example given here is so awful! 😅

Metre not meter.

Nice little poem but I wonder if the bot would understand criticism! Particularly the concepts of ‘cliched’ and ‘platitudes’!

JackyB Tue 04-Apr-23 15:45:29

Well, in the OP poem, style and scansion aside, I think that it must have got most of its sentiments from Gransnet. I'm sure I've read a lot of that sort of thing on here.

Maremia Tue 04-Apr-23 15:43:30

We are laughing at it now, but give it a couple of years to evolve and develop, and it will.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 04-Apr-23 14:55:51

It really doesn’t understand meter does it? And ‘season’ and ‘lesson’ don’t rhyme. I don’t think Wordsworth would wish to be associated with that.

notreallyagran Tue 04-Apr-23 14:45:52

I asked ChatGPT (Bing) for a poem about grandmothers in the style of Wordsworth and in an 'enthusiastic tone'. I think it's a bit more sophisticated than the one it gave Daddima. Does anyone else agree? Or is it just as bad?

My grandmother was like a flower
That bloomed in every season
She filled my days with joy and love
And taught me many a lesson

She showed me how to see the beauty
In every hill and dale
She sang to me the songs of nature
And told me many a tale

She was my friend, my guide, my mentor
My source of inspiration
She lives within my heart and memory
And deserves my admiration

The bot obviously isn’t intelligent enough to master the concept of meter in poetry.

Ha ha, you're right!

Iwtwab12bow Tue 04-Apr-23 14:19:11

Honestly if a student submitted this to me I would dismiss it as horse... totally incomprehensible and not worthy of a hallmark card. Is this what students ' fees are being spent on ? God save the human race.

Agreed Germanshepherdsmum - you took the words right out of my mouth!

SueEH Tue 04-Apr-23 13:48:09

I’ve used it for planning city break itineraries with a great deal of success!

Liza115 Tue 04-Apr-23 13:34:33

Sorry - this AI version is NOT outstanding. The poem by Foxygloves is outstanding!

Liza115 Tue 04-Apr-23 13:30:59

Outstanding ❤️

lizzypopbottle Tue 04-Apr-23 13:14:52

Instead of 'give them your nice' it could have said 'treat their head lice'. My grandkids have had them recently! 😂

Neilspurgeon0 Tue 04-Apr-23 13:09:47

I do not fear AI IF it is restricted to this sort of simplistic use even if it becomes more capable of emulating humans over time.

However, writing essays or completing on line exams and submitting them as ‘your own work’ is already a ‘thing’ in HE so there are real dangers.

Imagine a doctor or an engineer who has ‘qualified’ only through their ‘mastery’ of AI. THAT really IS scary

Delila Tue 04-Apr-23 13:00:14

Yes, it’s getting there.

silverlining48 Tue 04-Apr-23 12:59:15

And with practice will do better. Its all rather scary.

Delila Tue 04-Apr-23 12:55:23

Tries hard, but could do better…

Wyllow3 Tue 04-Apr-23 12:22:11

Unfortunately I can imagine it escaping all too easily onto a cheap card.
