So just found out that I can use the microphone key to type text and message -
It’s only taken me 5 months to discover this although DD helped me choose this iPad because of this function and informed me of this helpful option back in July🤣

I bought this iPad as a retirement gift for myself and when my fingers are cold and stiff , this facility is amazing.

Anyone else use this assistance?

I forgot all about this facility as tend to type faster than I dictate🤣

I’ve been told this facility and I use it sparingly

I use it especially when in a hurry. I often have to mix English and French so it gets a bit confused unless I change language. šŸ˜‚

Yes I use it for long emails etc it’s quite useful just watch the spelling then you have to with predictive text if you’re writing it so no worse
Why not?

Mollygo Sat 28-Dec-24 12:31:34

I use it a lot, but I do have to check that it has written what I said.

Mamie I like the fact that with a simple press of the globe you can change it to type whatever language you are speaking.
Such a time saver when you need to type long words like Rechtvaardigheid

Yes on my phone too.

Sometimes.
It's hard to correct on the iPad compared to my laptop and it does make numerous errors every time though.

Well yes, I have just lost a post in the middle of making one.
I had a stroke just before Christmas and keep loosing emails. Spelling can be atrocious due to fumble fingers.
Thanks for reminding me

Auntieflo.. I can't believe i'd forgotten this ... cannot use on this old MAC nor on my iphone... hope you're coping after stroke? 🌻takes time and energy I know - have right side neuropathy mild one 14 yrs ago which has greatly reduced mobility along with other health issues..

How do you switch languages ? Where is the globe button - Merci/Vielen Dank

It isn’t kind if you have a Welsh accent

On my phone the globe appears in the bottom left hand corner when I go to type.
Clicking repeatedly, cycles through which languages I have added for use. They show up in the space bar.

Mollygo Don’t seem to have a globe button on this iPad or my iPhone .. do u have to download app.?

Celieanne86 Sun 29-Dec-24 19:16:07

Yes I use it all the time as I have neuropathy in my fingers and I find it a blessing. I didn’t think I had an accent but some of the things I say are printed completely different and it doesn’t take into account local expressions but I’m so glad I’ve got it as I wouldn’t be able to come on Grans not often as I do, šŸ˜‚ no what I actually said was come on Gransnet quite as often gobbledygook again but so funny and easily corrected.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Sun 29-Dec-24 19:18:17

Occasionally.

Mollygo Sun 29-Dec-24 19:32:46

You have to have something to type into before you see them.
The first pic is when I was going to type into my iPhone.
The second, I was going to type into the search bar on my iPad.
Hope this helps.

So testing testing …. No globe on on this iPAD

Bea65 Mon 30-Dec-24 23:05:49

🌐 emoji but that’s all …

Mollygo Tue 31-Dec-24 09:05:11

Sorry Bea65. It’s so long since I did this that I’d forgotten. Before the globe will show, you need to add the language you want to use.
To Add or remove a keyboard for another language
Go to Settings > General > Keyboard.
Tap Keyboards, then do any of the following: Add a keyboard: Tap Add New Keyboard, then choose a keyboard from the list. Repeat to add more keyboards.

This is DH’s keyboard before and after adding a language.

Hope that helps.
NB
He wasn’t at all grateful 😤 for the lesson on how to do that, so I showed him how to remove it. šŸ˜…

To be honest what I find more useful are keypad text shortcuts! For instance if I type TC then Trafford Centre comes up. Must have scores of them - eg ā€˜jap’ gives me Julie and Paul.

Mollygo Tue 31-Dec-24 09:32:11

FGT2 is that on your iPad?
I used to ā€œteachā€ my computer to do that. Even now, LO still brings up Learning Outcome, but I haven’t tried it on my iPad.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 01-Jan-25 10:32:51

Yes, great on my iPad Mollygo.
Go into settings.
Choose keyboard.
Select keyboard then when the page comes up press the + button on the top line.
It’s so simple! (Even I worked out how to do it. 🤣)

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 01-Jan-25 10:35:49

I’ve just added ā€˜gm’
It now brings up
ā€œGood morning everyone from south Manchester.ā€
So easy.
Words or phrases. Have fun, it’s addictive Mollygo.

Mollygo Wed 01-Jan-25 10:50:20

Thanks FGT2. I really should’ve thought of that. One of my DGD fixed my phone so that every time I type in her name it adds, The best granddaughter in the whole wide world!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Wed 01-Jan-25 10:52:18

Love that! 🤣
