Locked out of Facebook/messenger/m eta whatever it's called
(42 Posts)I was hacked and in trying to get rid of all the rubbish I was being sent, I was myself told my account has been disabled and there seems no way to save it.
Part of me doesn't care at all but it was a link to some folk I can't contact any other way. Also some photos from long ago.
Has this happened to anyone on here ?
Each time I attempt to go through a retrieval, I seem to go further down a rabbit hole. The so called help site is just a robot asking me if my problem has been solved.
Perhaps I need a savvy DGC on my case?

Much as I hate subscribing to anything to do with Musk I’m pretty certain that I’ll be having a knee replacement in the near future and am so upset that I won’t be able to use Facebook to keep in touch with people so wondered if Twitter would go some way to replacing it? Given that I can still access Facebook on my computer I might ask the computer company if they could transfer everything from my computer to a laptop top. Even so I’m still scared that tampering with my account on the computer will result in me being locked out of that, too. I’ve realised that I buy so much stuff via Facebook, too. And when looking up a recipe last night I was directed to Facebook which I couldn’t open.
Contacted Martin Lewis to point out how people were being locked out of Facebook with no way of getting back on. Thought I’d emphasise elderly person needing Facebook for socialising etc.
MayBee 🤣😂
Sorry to laugh but sometimes you have to!
It's so ridiculous.
I'm glad you saved your photos.
I managed 2 other fb sites (I was admin) I can't access either now.
A problem for another day. Sigh.
It seems to recognise me whatever I put down. Seems to think I’m hacking myself! But Dr Strangelove’ish…
It’s horrible maybee to lose important stuff
I re-invented myself by using my own name and adding the last name of a family member
It won’t let me open a new account. All of the photos are stored on my computer and IPad so I haven’t lost those. I just used my daughters phone number to retrieve my password, as I’d used her phone number when I’d set up the account but it almost resulted in her losing her Facebook account, too. I may have to buy a lap top and get everything on my home computer put onto it. Or reinvent myself as someone else!
Grammaretto - have been able to contact with great satisfaction BT on 0330 1234 150 in the last few days!
That’s what I did Grammareto - sad to lose important messages but, back in touch with people
They shut me down but I have rejoined with a new account. It's fine. I have lost photos but I have reconnected with people I haven't really contacted for years. They get a friend request!
I’ve been able to access my page via my partners iPad so I can tell my friends that if they get a message from him it’s from me so that’s a relief. I do worry that when they say in 180 days they will shut me down completely my computer Facebook page will shut down, too. Annoyingly last week I was going to go through all my passwords and organise them but I didn’t get round to doing it. If I had done I wouldn’t be in this mess.
The slippery slope began years ago when I realised that BT (British Telecom) had no phone number to speak to them.
The word communication should have a non in front of it.
I like our village fb page and enjoy being in touch with friends who live away. It does feel odd though to have so much significant stuff there
I can’t offer advice I m not computer clever enough but I know how you feel I have so many photos on fb photos …. some I have elsewhere as well but some may be unique to fb I use it a lot
I just woke up having almost a panic attack over it. I’m so worried that I’ll lose it on my computer as well. It’s my main way of communicating with the outside world. I can’t understand why there’s no way of actually contacting them and sorting it out. I needed it so much during lockdowns etc. I actually feel really angry with them for providing a service that people start to depend on and then just taking it away from them with no means of stopping it, especially as I don’t leave my house much these days and feel very cut off from people.
It's awful MayBee. It was the same for me.
Now the only reason I feel the need to be on Facebook is to find what is happening in my neighbourhood and it's like losing an address book.
I may leave.
Still banned. All the times I’ve reported racist and xenophobic comments on Facebook that they have ignored but I forget my password and I’m banned for life….
I did the face recognition thing again and this time they said I was under review and would contact me in 24 hours. So I'm making some sort of progress. If I do get back on I really need to stop being so addicted to it, though.
I gave up trying to access my Facebook account and have now rejoined with a new account and am gradually being sent friend suggestions.
Several people have asked if it's really me so I need to reassure them.
It may help if you understand how you access your accounts on each device. If you consider your account on, for example, FaceBook (FB), your account with all your posts, photos etc is not held on your device (iPad device perhaps) but on FB’s servers (computer systems). When you put the FB app on your iPad, you have to give FB (at the minimum) an email address and password. These together are the key to open/use your account, they are your credentials. You probably allow your iPad to look after your credentials for you or else have to enter them every time you want to access FB posts. Having the FB app on your iPad is a shortcut to allow you to see what you have stored on FB’s servers, any messages etc. and you can save what you see on your iPad as well. When you open the app on your device, your credentials are automatically exchanged and checked and, if OK, you are able to use the app. Otherwise you can log in to FB’s website (using your credentials) and see the same data.
When you want to use another device (a laptop?), you will need to go through the same process, download the app, use your key (email and password) and you will be given access to the identical information that you have on your iPad because it is your only information held on FB servers.
If you can understand this process it may help you to realise why you can get shut out of your account on one device (iPad) but not another (laptop). Somehow, the key/credentials on the iPad have changed. As long as you are certain that you know your FB email and password (key/credentials) on the laptop, then you can start again on the iPad. Delete the FB app, download it again, add your email and password and you should have access again. (I say should – but you didn’t have access before so you haven’t lost anything.)
If you are locked out because you have been hacked, things will be different. This means that someone else has worked out/stolen your keys and used them to change your credentials on FB’s servers. You will be locked out on all your devices. You will need to talk to FB to see if they can restore your account.
The more complex and unique your passwords are, the less chance you have of being hacked.
I've had facebook on my computer for years but the ipad is more recent. I think the problem has been my friend reporting fraudulent activity on my account because I had got back on prior to that
. She'd received a friend request from me that I hadn't sent.
I forgot to say non of my passwords are proper words. They can be pronounced but there is no such word.

Is your laptop linked with your iPad. I’m assuming not as only one device has the problem.
Main problem, apart from messenger, is that I can't post pictures on the computer facebook page.
