Shall we start again with a new discussion .....

I'm another WhatsApp fan. I use it daily on both my laptop (as I can see photos/videos bigger on there) and on my mobile phone.

PayPal for paying friends & family.

Google Maps especially when driving, as I don't have a built in sat nav.

Trolley.co.uk it compares supermarket prices.

Also the BBC weather app.

On my phone:
WhatsApp is the one I use every day.
Borrowbox nearly every day
MetOffice a couple of times a week - likewise Bluesky BBCSounds and Instagram

I use different sets of apps on my laptop, my ipad and my TV.

None are my "favourites" to be honest as they all do different things!

Gransnet
Mumsnet

Word Trip, for passing the time.

NotSpaghetti .... I've never heard of Borrowbox before. I don't have a library card but my grandson does.
Is it for childrens books too?
I will have to have a look at it again.

Interesting thread.

I have shied away from apps, on the whole.
Not sure why.
It may have been parking apps that put me off.
Far quicker to just insert coins.

Another BorrowBox fan here.

Also NHS app for repeat prescription ordering.

Citymapper for public transport and walking routes in unfamiliar places.

RingGo parking app is brilliant. Time saving and easy to use.

PayPal for ease of paying money to friends or family.

I think you can get a library card online (to use with Borrowbox), Welshy

NotSpaghetti Wed 18-Feb-26 20:04:30

And yes, all ages.

I don’t think all libraries subscribe to Borrowbox . I couldn’t find my local library on the list and on the council website it mentions Libby. Is this the same sort of thing?

Thank you, I have just joined. I didn't realise you could do it all online.

Libby is in my area too and for a while I had both apps but I find Borrowbox really easy to use and possibly it has more books...

I hadn't heard of that either, but I just googled it and yes it looks similar.

Absolutely couldn’t manage without Copy Me That. It copies recipes, makes shopping lists and you can meal plan. Use it all the time. Also love Shop Shop which is my shopping list ( basically the only thing I use on my mobile phone!)
Do like Headspace and You Tube for meditation and yoga classes too. Good Reads for keeping track of all the books I read.

poochwool Thu 19-Feb-26 13:56:37

WhatsApp
Press Reader (not paid for a newspaper for years)
Libby
Google
Google Pay
Notes
Ryanair
Flightradar
Smile
Chase
Clock
Loop
AirBnB
Email... the list goes on

I’ve always had difficulty entering info on a phone, so I’ve never mastered apps and thus miss out on all sorts of benefits. Also, I now need reading glasses to see anything on my aging Android mobile, since my cataract op and the fitting of long-distance IOLs (lenses).

I can now drive again, which is wonderful, but it’s only very recently that I’ve finally braved using PayByPhone so that I can actually go anywhere apart from supermarkets with their own car park! Still feel sorry for all the old biddies, like me, who continue to have that problem. Today’s technology leaves a lot of people out in the cold.

Unfortunately our local car park no longer accepts coins, which was frustrating and I had no choice but to download the app.

Do you have a laptop, computer or a tablet? They have much bigger screens for you.

For example I have WhatsApp on both my android phone and on my laptop. I much prefer to use it on my laptop because of the size of the screen and the size of the keyboard. I can also view photos I receive, larger too.
