Buying a new tablet

I sound like a poor relation, but I've never had a brand new computer, they've always been hand-me-downs from younger family members. My latest is a Samsung Go tablet (that's 'Go', not 'Pro' which are more expensive.
I need a new one, its memory's full and I've deleted every un-necessary thing I can think of.

So I need some advice on what to look for in a new one, and I'm a bit wary of shop assistants talking computer language I don;t understand.

I know I don't want Apple as I'm used to this one which is Windows (I think) - my husband has an Apple and I find it very confusing. So please, any hints on what I say to the youngsters who work at PC computer World when I try to explain what I'm looking for?
I'm 87 years old and this old dog (bitch?) doesn't do new tricks.

I love my IPad, my first one I bought brand new for a lot of money, I think I’m on my 6th now. I buy from Amazon renewed and I now buy iPad mini’s, not a massive difference in screen size but much lighter to handle.
I have a renewed one coming tomorrow and it’s around £600 including a protective case.
I’m like a child waiting for Christmas , so excited.
My old ones I use as a monitor for security cameras and I have a full size iPad in the kitchen with all my recipes on.
