Sennen Cornwall

It says a lot about my state of mind tonight that I read the title of this thread as 'Semen Cornwall'.
I think I need putting down!

Lovely coastal walks all along there. Minack Theatre is good take something warm to wrap around you and comfortable to sit on. Tate St Ives is good. Surfing is also good.

Cream teas. Eden Project on the way down or back, same with Lost Gardens of Heligan. Almost all the coastline of Cornwall is beautiful.

I have just been reading about The Hidden Valley on Trip advisor, gets good reviews, I thought the DGC would enjoy it, has anyone been?

When in Cornwall, we always have a ride to Sennen, I love it there, but unless you`re actually staying in the bay itself, you`ll need to be early to be sure of getting parked, the car park near the harbour gets full very quickly. There`s another one at the top of the hill before you go down to the cove, great views from there, and brilliant spot for a picnic, but I`m not energetic or fit enough for the walk down. The Lands End complex is OK, if you concentrate on the coastal scenery rather than all the commercialised stuff. You pay to park there, but that is also your entry fee, once you park, you just walk in. We`ve had THE PHOTO, under the sign, but it aint cheap, had to have it though, because we had one 22 years earlier at John O`Groats, we wanted the pair!

Gweek seal sanctuary is not far away.

RNAS Culdrose has an annual air day which is worth a visit if it is on while you are there.

We used to love Kynance Cove, worth the walk down and back up again. DS3 remembered it so fondly from his childhood that he took his girlfriend there to propose to her.

So many simple pleasures in southern Cornwall I do hope you have a great time.

Another good trip out is to the Geevor tin mine, in the Pendeen area, closed now as a mine, but it`s possible to take a guided walk into one of the mine passages. There are also lots of other abandoned tin mines along that coast. Oh, and Pendeen lighthouse is worthy of a visit, very impressive coastal scenery around there.

I would give Lands End a miss - it's too commercialised these days - and go to the Lizard instead, for wonderful scenery. Kynance Cove is beautiful; unfortunately it gets very busy in the high season and last time we walked from Mullion to Kynance, hoping for a cooling swim when we got there, there were so many French and German schoolchildren on the beach you could hardly move! It was still worth the walk though! A boat trip up the Helford river is nice, and Pendennis Castle at St Mawes is interesting.

Artygran, that`s why I said ignore all the commercialised stuff at Lands End, if you walk to the other side of the complex out to the cliffs, it`s lovely. We went to Kynance Cove, but stayed on the cliffs above, me not being agile enough to get down there. It was in July, but fairly quiet. I agree with you about the Lizard though, there`s a house at the back of the car park at Lizard Point that I`d love to live in.
We always visit Penzance, but only to shop, because, despite all it`s romantic and historic links, picturesque it aint. We love Mevagissey, even though it does get crowded, and the beach at nearby Gorran Haven is gorgeous.

Sorry, Number, I never read anything properly these days - especially after and (well it was our anniversary yesterday)!

glass we went to Truro recently and there were loads of leaflets to pick up at the motorway service station so stop off and see what you can find on your way down.

I can remember Lands End before it was commercialised soo much nicer just the cliffs sea and wind

I unfortunately never saw Lands End before it was "done over", just saw pictures, but am still happy to go there and enjoy the coastal scenery for just the cost of parking the car. I definitely wouldn`t recommend any of the food outlets on the complex, better to find a local pub for good grub.
