If you google in "Hotels in Fizrovia" you will come up with a good selection, prices and also availability. Fitzrovia is a small area in W1 and a short walk from Euston station, about 1/2 mile to give you an idea of distance.

One or two are near Regents Park which in turn is near Great Portland Street tube station, Metropolitan and Circle lines. There is a Holiday Inn at Carburton Street, a stone's throw from the tube station.

The buses in Great Portland Street will take you to Oxford Street, no doubt your first port of call!

Let me know if you need any more specialised knowledge of that area!

Thank you everyone, I realise that it will not be a cheap night so am not too worried as it is such a special occasion. I do need guidance on which is the best area so that we can either get near a tube or walk to the Oxford Street stores!! So I have plenty to think about from your replies. It is so long since I have been in London that I have forgotten all I ever knew!!
I am off to Google your suggestions, again a big thank you, to Gk, jo8 and ja.

The tips from j08 and ja are great for me, thanks, both smile I often have to find hotels for visitors. Cheers.

CitizenM on the South Bank is lovely. And reasonably priced. Easy to get to the Shard. And St Paul's is just over the Millenium Bridge.Easy to get to Westminster area by boat or underground. And it's very close to the Globe and Tate Modern if you want to give them abit of culture.

Meant to add - best book early with that date, because hotels will be chokka and the prices will be stupendously high, as they were recently when I tried to book a colleague during the Chelsea Flower Show.

oh grandmanorm what a treat is in store for all of you. I don't know the area around Euston that well re hotels, but (depending on your budget of course, this is a budget option) - a short Tube ride away the Travelodge on Waterloo Road (walking distance from Waterloo Station) is quite new, so looks good and fresh and I've heard nothing but good reports about it from colleagues who stay there, some of their upper floor rooms have views of the London Eye and the breakfasts, I'm told, are outstanding.

Another nice hotel in that area is the H10 (a Spanish hotel group) which is very swish and has wonderful views of the city. It's also in Waterloo Road and may have a family room.

That whole area has undergone a big facelift recently, and The Cut is buzzing at night, as is the South Bank. The Travelodge mentioned above is just down from the Old Vic and there are loads of pubs around there, I can let you know which one a certain Mr Spacey favours wink

Waterloo is a good hub for the Tube, I think Oxford Circus is about 4 stops on the Bakerloo.

Really depends on your budget Grandmanorm and in central London you won't find anything cheap.
We have sometimes used Secret Rooms - type Secret Rooms in London into Google - and go from there.
You can specify the area eg Mayfair, Marylebone etc but you don't find out the actual hotel till you have booked, only the price and how many stars it's got! This is because the price is greatly reduced and the hotels don't want people to know they are selling the rooms off cheap.
You can get something interesting for the price if a room in the Travelodge or Premier Inn.
Good luck - it sounds fantastic! I too have an American DGD and I'm hoping I'll still be fit enough to enjoy London with her when she's old enough smile

I am hoping that someone can help me find/recommend a hotel in central London for me and my 16 year old Californian granddaughter and her best friend.
I am taking them there on 30th August for an overnight stay and am getting nowhere looking on line so am hoping someone here can help me. We shall be arriving by train into Euston station early in the morning. I suspect the girls will want to shop but I intend to take them on one of the hop on hop off buses to see the sights. Neither of them have been to London before.
I am as excited about all this as they are.
Thank you in advance.
