Hotels which deserve to be Recommended

GA I hope you enjoy it. They were lovely people and worked hard to make sure we were comfortable (my brother and I). Ian had a hospital appointment while we were there, (to stop and restart his heart to treat his fibrillation!) but next morning he was there trying to take over the breakfast cooking as usual, until his wife put her foot down. So he contented himself with "just" serving it and clearing the tables.

Elegran I love to visit York and having checked out their website will plan to stay at your recommended B&B next time I go.

I'm in, just state a date. seasider it was taken over some time ago by an Italian family who also own the Wycliffe also in Stockport. Would this be before your visits?

I stayed at the Alma lodge for work some years ago . I just remember it being very old-fashioned has it been done-up? maybe we should meet there ?

I live within walking distance (just,with a following wind) from the Alma Lodge,so it is indeed a small world.

The Alma Lodge is just up the road from the College where I taught until retirement

Bermonsey Square Hotel in London highly recommended and well placed for lots of the tourist sights.

My daughter used to live just a few doors up from the Alma Lodge - small world.

Didn't realise you had been staying so near, phoenix. That's one of our local places for lunch and meetings. Not so far from anno's, either.

I can recommend this B&B on the outskirts of Ambleside, comfortable room, fab breakfast, wonderful hosts and not too expensive!

I have stayed at this hotel twice on business trips and really cannot fault it. Excellent value for money, lovely staff and the food is excellent and reasonably priced.

Only downside is no lift, but staff are happy to help with luggage.

Not a hotel, but a B & B in York. Bootham Gardens Guest House, lovely welcome, comfortable beds, excellent breakfast (wide choice with gourmet recipes), little courtyard with fountain and table/seats. 5-10 mins walk to centre of York. From about £36 pp per night.

Plus jar of pickled eggs left in diningroom for free consumption - their eggs are delivered fresh each morning and any not used get pickled.
