anyone accidently left an item at a hotel and recoverd it ,lost property etc

Several years ago we were staying in a posh hotel in the centre of Exeter. DS no2 left his trainers under the bed. He insisted that they were important enough to warrant a phone call requesting their return. The hotel were wonderful and refused payment for the parcel.
Oh my embarrassment when the beautifully packaged, stinky old trainers were returned!! XX

Update.....have now rung the hotel 3 times, sent a nice but firm email...got a call from manager..saying.. the room had been thouroughly checked, and our staff are "brilliant" having spoke to the lady/maid who serviced the room.....no coat/jacket was found in the room! (although it didn't need to be "found" it was sitting right on the back of the chair)!! hence my lovely little black jacket has "disappeared" they only had my word it was left and I only have their word that the maid did not find my jacket! nothing else I can do now as I have no proof I left it..(I won't ever make that mistake again) thanks all.

I would send another email (or letter, or phone call) to remind her that If you were inventing the loss of a garment, why would you choose something that you liked a lot, but did not cost you very much, when an imaginary claim could be for a designer garment?

Add that you too are brilliant and honest and tell the truth and that your word is at least as good as their staff. If it had been removed by one of them (heaven forbid) then of course they would deny ever setting eyes on it, wouldn't they?

Not left anything but had Sony Walkman and charger stolen when in China.
I was so angry but then thought, I hope they enjoyed the music.

I left a ring in a French B&B years ago, on the sink. When I realised I'd left it, I phoned them and explained in my best rusty A level French what I'd lost and asked if they'd found it. It wasn't an expensive ring but it had belonged to my mother, a silver ring with a semi-precious stone in it and I really like it. The B&B owner could easily have denied knowledge of it but she said she actually was wearing it as we spoke and promised to post it to me - which she did! I did offer to pay for postage but she declined. I was so relieved and grateful for that kindness. The only other time I recall leaving anything was a bottle of Chanel no 19 in a hotel safe in Thun, Switzerland. Luckily we were able to arrange to collect it on the way home as we had the car. These days we check everything several times, just in case!

I left a brand new jumper in a hotel drawer in Yorkshire but when I rang the hotel the following day it had "disappeared". We arrived back from Tunisia and realised we had left our son's buggy in the hotel lobby. Thomson flew the buggy back to Luton and a member of staff who lived near us in Lancashire delivered it to our door. Excellent service!

DH lost his wedding ring in the swimming pool at a hotel; he hates using suncream but i insisted as the sun was very strong, therefore it slipped off because I made him use the cream!
We were leaving the next morning, and the hotel trawled the pool, found it and couriered it on to our next hotel. Worth A$10!

However, have lost very nice new clothes from suitcases when visiting America, where we do not know, they were just not there when we arrived and unpacked.

I never found the pair of trousers I last saw in a hotel in Verona.

I left a coat on a peg in DH's hospital room. I phoned as soon as I got home, but it too had "disappeared"

DD2 kindly lent an expensive wrap to the girl sitting next to her outside a pub one evening as the girl (whom she did not know) was shivering. DD2 was chatting to a friend, next thing she knew the girl had gone complete with cashmere wrap.

I stayed at Marr Hall in Glasgow on the way to Islay, when I was almost at the ferry I realised I had left a sapphire and diamond ring on a shelf above the washbasin. I rang the hotel, they checked the room and found the ring, they kept it in the safe and I collected it two weeks later on my return to Glasgow.

My DH leaves things around but not in hotels. He is very good at scrabbling around and doing a last minute reccy. But he's left cameras binoculars rucsack and goretex in taxis. It helps when I am stuck for Xmas presents for him. I once left all my jewellery (I didn't have a lot) in a drawer in the George at Chollerford. Remembered half way home. It was waiting for me in reception .

DH once left a jacket on an Easyjet flight back to Bristol - we realised before we left the airport so went to their "help" desk and explained, they said they would ask the crew to check for it and ring us. Later not having heard from them I rang and they said the plane was on its way back to Spain and I should ring their rep. at Alicante airport! I rang and was told they would check the plane on its arrival and if it was found would email me and arrange for it to be flown back to Bristol. I never heard from them again!

I once left a bag of laundry on a bus while on my way to the laundrette. I called at the bus lost property office to see if anyone had found it.T
here it was and the man behind the counter asked me what was in the bag. We were recently married and the bag contained all our lovely new linen - sheets, towels, tablecloths etc. In those days you had to pay a proportion of the value to reclaim lost property. I was horrified! the man behind the counter leaned forward ans said,'' Let's call it a bag of old rags , shall we?'' and charged me nothing. What a very nice man. I have never forgotten him - or left anything on a bus since!

We were on holiday in Somerset a few years ago, and whilst on a day out in Minehead we had a drink sitting at an outside table at the pub. The table was next to a low wall overlooking the street. Later in the evening, a few hours after we`d been there, we were back in our holiday flat in Watchet and I realised I`d lost my purse somewhere whilst out. It didn`t contain a fortune, but it was our spending money and food money for the week. Just on the off chance, we rang the pub, and my purse had been handed in, everything intact fortunately, but we had a long drive back to get it, very grateful to whoever handed it in.
On another occasion, we were staying in N.Wales, close to Colwyn Bay, went food shopping in a supermarket in Colwyn, and after packing the shopping into the car, we drove back to the caravan, to realise that I`d left my bag containing my purse still hanging over the trolley handle. Once again, we went back and it had been handed in, so there are a lot of honest folk around still.

I left a camera behind on a hotel restaurant table in Barbados. It was found and handed in after we had checked out. Strangely someone unknown then tried to claim it, fortunately we had been on a guided walk with a member of staff and he checked the pictures and found one I had taken of him, so he knew it was a false claim. It was handed over to DD who was living on the Island then and I got it back eventually. Incidentally it was a very ordinary digital camera, so I cannot understand why someone was that desperate to claim it
