Holidays 2016

Oh went into study a few weeks ago on the phone, came down and said we are going to India! Includes Shimla and 800 bridges on narrow gauge railway! Never been so adventurous!

Long weekend in Sidmouth with dogs to visit DS1 and hopefully DGD, then off to Ireland in June, Belfast, Donegal and Dublin, for DSDs wedding. Still trying to decide where to go for our main holiday - so many places, so little time/money!

Off to Portugal today with DS, DiL and 3 GS 5 and under. Holiday???!

Thinking of you Harrigran, really hope the chemo isn't too dreadful and knocks it on the head.

With our children's encouragement this yearwe are ski-ing again (Spending the Kid's Inheritance) and off to Lima, Puerto Maldono, the Amazon Rainforest and Machu Picchu in June. Definitely believe in ticking items off the bucket list before we get too old to go. Last year we did the Rockies, Oregon, New Orleans, Graceland, Nashville, New York to see Les Miserables and the sights and shopping, and home on the QM II (surprise upgrade to Princess Grill class, which we could never have afforded, nothing could top that!

So far this year we have been plagued with knee, shoulder and back problems, so definitely not leaving it any later!

unfortunately i can't afford a holiday!! and now that my daughter and grandaughters have moved in we'd have to stick to the holiday period for our holidays.

we've been shocked [although we knew] that the prices of caravan park holidays increase by at least £200 in the school holidays - absolutely disgusting in my opinion as all they do is provide the caravan!!

just like package deals abroad go up in the holidays - that way they make their profits at the expense of families.

so we'll just spend time in and around poole [which is a lovely place anyway] and look at what there is to enjoy here. we've lived here for almost 30 years and not discovered everything there is to discover. operation dorset is our theme this year [although we may well spill over into hampshire and wiltshire on occasions].

You will certainly enjoy Valencia jingl. My DS and his family live there so I know it quite well. As well as the old Turia riverbed area mentioned by NananadGrampy do go to the Central Market and if you have time go to the Albufera a few km south of the city and don't forget the Cathedral. There always seem to be fiestas going on too so check with Tourist Info as to what is happening. Unfortunately you have just missed probably one of the best festivals in the world - Las Fallas - but flights and hotels are always expensive at that time. I do hope you enjoy your visit.

As for my holidays I don't think I have anything big planned this year (time yet though !) but will be going to see friends in Ireland in July.

Riva Del Garda in September with my best friend. I am also looking to cruise solo(never holidayed solo) if the price is right. I know I will have to pay a supplement but I do not want to pay double. Any idea's?

I'm off to Germany in June to visit old friends. And I am hopeful of a proper holiday this year and am trying to decide between Lake Como,
Lake Annecy, Austria, or possibly Turkey.

Adelaide again in November. Last year's trip was mean to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience but we loved it so much we are planning to do it again while we are still fit enough for that 24-hour flight and can still afford to do it in Business class comfort. Cannot describe how wonderful it felt to paddle along the seas edge in the sunshine. While we wait, its Cornwall next month!

We went to Jamaica in Feb, then we have my niece's wedding in Paxos in June, followed by Northumberland in July and then a couple of weeks on the Med somewhere in September + a 2nt hotel stay but not sure where or when yet. All quite exciting - I love holidays!

We are off in just under 3 weeks on a Hawaiian cruise! This will be the forth time we have taken this cruise and it's so relaxing - once you get past the 11 hour flight to LA. After that not sure what we will be doing. We have spent money getting the garden sorted, so maybe - if we get decent weather - we will be relaxing there.

Going to Umbria for 5 days next week. Chelsea flower show with best friend in May to celebrate our 70th birthdays. Then Brittany end of August to celebrate 70th with 3 children plus 2 daughters in law and 4 grandchildren.

No holidays arranged for this year, chemo until September, will see how I feel in the autumn.

We seem to be very lucky with holidays this year.
April... a few days in Norfolk at a hotel and then a few more in S. Wales in our caravan.
May...a week in Cornwall with all the family.
June ...a week in the caravan with DD3 and DGS
July... 5 days in Iceland. Just the two of us for our 40th wedding anniversary.
August...A week in Yorkshire, in the caravan with elder DGS and DD2. then meeting up with DD1 for a long w/end.
October...A cruise from San Francisco, through the Panama canal and finishing in Fort Lauderdale.
Also , I have a 'girlie ' w/end at the end of September.
We also hope to fit in a few w/ends in the caravan.

34 days and counting for us !

We're off for our annual trip to Florida for 6 weeks. I cant wait for a bit of sunshine and swimming.

Extra excited this year because DD2 and her family will be joining us for 3 weeks. The 2 little boys will be surprised because they don't know we're going too.

Then in Sept a week in a log cabin in Norfolk with DD1 and her little ones. It'll be all hunting for bears in the forest and toasting marshmallows - whatever the weather !

Jings Valencia is awesome . I used to travel there for work. There is a dry riverbed runs through the town , now planted with trees and flowers and a pavement and evenings and weekends its full of people 'promenading' , with music and such. The Valencian paella is famous too.

Wise words Annsixty which we've been trying to follow ourselves after seeing a relative becoming very disabled before retirement even happened for him. I hope the memories you've made are good to reflect on now that circumstances prevent you travelling. X

magnesium is supposed to help prevent cramps too.
(it's a muscle relaxant)

Nannylovesshopping I do take magnesium, not sure that it helps. I've had rls for 35 years 24/7 and am prescribed suitable medication but it doesn't always work.

jings cheap air fare adds a bonus to your holiday. Enjoy Valencia.

I am going to Valencia on Thursday. We chose it because the air fare was cheap.

Off to Tavira in Portugal on Friday by myself and with the family to a cottage in Yorkshire in August (4 generations of us!)

Lynnie1 please don't be nervous about your cruise,
you'll love it! You'll get back and want to book another one. We find its the most relaxing kind of holiday. I've got 2 booked this year. I'm off to the Canaries with my sister in June and the Med with OH and friends in Sept. I do envy those of you going to the beautiful Italian lakes though. I loved going there but I can no longer fly. I hope wherever anyone is going they have a great time.

We are off back to Mexico in May. Would have liked somewhere different but it's difficult, if not well nigh impossible to get anywhere exotic from a Scottish airport.

We enjoy our holidays and thought retirement would be full of them, last minute (cheap) bookings, but then DGD came along and we have babysitting duties. Oh well ...
