I noticed this phrase on another forum this morning and thought it would be fun for bus pass holders to share their trips and ideas for travel, in the UK plus any tips on the actual planning part.

I thought I did well but some of you grannypauline are very adventurous.
I was so scared that the free pass would be withdrawn before I was eligible that I made d* sure I would use mine well.
I went from the Scottish Borders to Orkney for a long weekend. We had to change in Edinburgh and Inverness but the trip took 12 hours.
The bus drove onto the ferry and all the way to Kirkwall. Actually it backed onto the ferry and as it was a dark October night, I was very glad I wasn't driving.
Another time we got the bus to Campbeltown for a holiday. Its a beautiful journey passing lochs and mountains. Brilliant. Also to Oban and across to the islands where there are no buses but we hired bikes.
I regularly go up north to visit my DD and DGC by bus or I use my railpass.
Thanks to whoever I should thank as I really think it is the best 60th (or 65th) birthday present ever.

Same here in Merseyside, I just got my bus-pass at 60. Free travel on all buses, trains and ferries in Merseyside. Have to wait til the retirement age for the national one though.

Free bus travel throughout the whole of England is wonderful. We have used ours in Devon, Dorset, the Lakes, all over.
