I’ve been looking up trains from Plymouth to Paddington. The journey used to be about 3 1/2 hours. It’s now over 4. Does anyone know why? Suppose I could ring National Rail .hmm

More stations added?
May also depend on who the train provider is.
Midland Trains are very slow compared to Virgin.

I have got a feeling that they now allow more time at each station for people to get on and off.

Could just be that it stops at more stations.

Are there any ongoing engineering works meaning that trains need to run slowly along some stretches of rail?

Is it because of the time that you want to travel? Some trains are slower than others.
The journey time may be longer on weekends and holidays.

The 08:35 train takes 3h 39m

Hmm I’ve looked at different times. Thanks for responding everyone.I expect there’s a reasonable explanation. I shall have to book a seat close to the Loo!

There was a collision between a lorry and a railway bridge recently I think - are they working on the bridge by any chance? Is that causing a bit of a delay?
