DS says that the same holiday villa is cheaper on Airbnb in many cases and suggest we book through them. I have heard about cases where scammers take photos from legitimate sites and post them on Airbnb and of other scams. I know he shouldn't pay the owner direct and should pay by credit card to protect his money but my concern is that we will turn up and find the accommodation is not available.

All information will be appreciated. Thanks

Owners Direct are pretty good. Used them several times for France.

I have only stayed with Airbnb in the UK but we have had lovely homes to stay in and have never been disappointed. I have always paid through Airbnb, in fact I have never been asked by an owner to pay direct and would not book with them if they did request this. I check out the feedback comments and also email the owner to introduce myself and family.

We're in an Airbnb as we speak. It's great.

I've stayed in lots of Airbnbs but only choose ones where it's the owner's primary residence and I check up on the electoral register and look at the property on Google street view.
There are many ways and means of checking people out.
