Are you planning on holidaying this year?

We've been asked to speak to BBC Scotland this morning on holidays and how people are feeling about travel this year.
According to industry experts, travel bookings have begun in earnest and people are booking longer holidays and more multigenerational ones, families who have been unable to see each during the pandemic wanting to make up for lost time. What are your thoughts?

Once you have the vaccine will you feel confident about booking a holiday?

No holiday, but have watched prowalktours on you tube, which made me look up other you tube tours, brilliant. So that’s our holidays this year, good luck everyone.

Even managed a UK holiday last year so can see no reason we can’t do the same this year can’t stay locked up forever

Clevedon Thu 14-Jan-21 16:17:22

Definitely not holidaying this year. We had a multi generation holiday booked in UK for June but rearranged it for same time next summer. Too early and too risky to mix families in June

Well, had four short breaks and two long distance cruises cancelled AGAIN (cancelled last year as well) SO I have just ordered a new kitchen and bathroom ....I will be spending the money there instead ....I am lucky as I live one minute from the beach, the countryside of Northumberland, and the city of Newcastle (oh, and the ferry terminal to HOlland !) as soon as I can, I shall be off somewhere ..............smile

We (my husband and myself) had already given up holidays prior to Covid19, due to disability. Yes, I do know that there are (expensive) holidays that cater for people with disabilities. My husband's problem is a back injury, which also affects his right leg, and he cannot manage steps. He is quite tall and struggles to bend, as well as sitting down or getting up again. he needs extra tall furniture and sanitary fittings, so that he doesn't have to bend too far down, and can get up without additional pain (he has constant pain, both night and day). Rooms for disabled people tend to be built for those who are wheelchair users, which he is not. He won't consider one, despite not being able to walk far. His problems also mean that we cannot go to cinemas or theatres, or most places of entertainment. Having tried for several years to find suitable self catering properties, we gave up! We are now planning to move to the North of Scotland, close to the sea. He has bought himself a camera carrying drone, and I bought him a powerful telescope, so that he will be able to see the wildlife he loves, but cannot otherwise get to see.
So........... no holidays for us, whether Covid is around or not!

The only booking I have has been postponed since April 2020 and was rearranged back then for August 2021. Trip with GC from both ends of the UK to a well-known Safari Park with two night stay. Of course have flights to collect GC and return. That's all I will be doing other than visiting our caravan. Have learned I can live without spending thousand to join the great public at airport and restaurants/pubs and beaches.

No way. Even when we have received our 2nd vaccine there will still be some who haven’t, or won’t, and we can still pass on the virus.

Our sons wedding in Corfu was cancelled in June 2020 and rebooked for June 2021. Just praying things improve by then
Just moved our March trip to Barbados to November. Fingers crossed.

Hoping to take caravan to Yorkshire Dales in Spring. My daughter and her partner are hoping to join us, like they did in Scotland last September. Have bought an electric bike, hope that will help with the terrain, haha

GrammarGrandma Thu 14-Jan-21 15:14:49

Supposedly, our cancelled holiday to Crete with oldest daughter and her partner will take place this September. We shall wait and see.

We have a river cruise booked for July - postponed since July last year. The travel company offer flexible booking so if July looks to be a bit too soon, we can postpone it again until the time is right. We'll plan a couple of short breaks in this country later in the year too.

Sarahmob Thu 14-Jan-21 14:27:07

We’re the same Mollygo it’s more the flight that bothers me, just waiting for Riviera to contact us.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 14-Jan-21 14:08:48

We have Sardinia booked but I think it is doubtful. We have cottages booked which are also a bit touch and go.

Oopsadaisy1 Thu 14-Jan-21 14:03:47

We still have a holiday carried over from last year, we thought it might double as a 50th Weddding Anniversary trip, but we won’t be going this year either.

But I’m hoping that we will be able to visit DD and Grandchildren in the Summer as it’s almost a year since we last saw them.
DD has health issues, so we are playing safe and I don’t see much fun in being abroad and having to take the same precautions as we do here.

We were due to go to a holiday cottage here in the UK last June for my birthday. It has been transferred to this June when we had hoped to go to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I feel sceptical about going and think it is unlikely to happen. In some ways I would rather not go and stay safely at home to celebrate our anniversary. We will wait and see what happens nearer the time but we are certainly not desperate to have a holiday until we are clearer about how things are with Covid.

NfkDumpling Thu 14-Jan-21 14:01:26

We have a campervan (aka Camperbubble). Completely self-contained, so we've booked camp sites for a short trip to Hampshire and a longer one to Western Scotland and Mull. But these bookings can always be cancelled if things are still bad in the summer. We've also got a trip to Jersey which involves a flight which was postponed by the holiday company from last summer. We'll see how things go as to whether we risk a flight.

WendyBT Thu 14-Jan-21 13:58:01

With my husband's health (Parkinson's) holidays are way down on my to-do list. It's hard work getting him ready to go for a day out so catching a plane or a train is no-no.

If it was just me, I would be off in a flash.

TerriBull Thu 14-Jan-21 13:55:54

I do think it's a matter of feeling our way to see how these umpteen mutations pan out, latest one seems to be the Brazilian strain, as always when a new one comes to light, accompanied by the inevitable cautionary "may" be more resistant to vaccines! Of course nobody knows at the moment. As far as holidays are concerned, particularly those overseas, which I know I'd love, I just don't think we'll be out of the woods for a while. It's really a waiting game.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 14-Jan-21 13:53:36

As soon as we are vaccinated and travel restrictions are lifted we are off, hopefully Africa to see AC and family. Then Cyprus with another AC and GC.

Noreen3 Thu 14-Jan-21 13:52:48

just day trips for a start.I managed 5 seaside trips last year when the coach companies were allowed to run.I have a credit note for one of them that was cancelled,so will use that, but not till I'm sure it will take place, perhaps will book a short break. Not planning any flights yet, even if Ryanair and other companies say we can

Helenlouise3 Thu 14-Jan-21 13:49:26

We have 3 holidays booked this year -all transferred from last year. One is to Shrewsbury next month- taking my elderly parents. We've written that off but are waiting for the hotel to cancel. The second is the 1st week of June to Greece. At the moment Greece are asking for 7 days isolation upon arrival, so that looks unlikely as well, as we've only booked a week. The third is to Bulgaria in August, so I have my fingers crossed that we might possibly get to take that one. In all cases I'll be waiting for the hotel/holiday company to cancel.

Norah Thu 14-Jan-21 13:42:35

No.

Mrsdof Thu 14-Jan-21 13:41:06

My DH and I have booked flights and hotel to Cyprus for September. We paid upfront for the flights as they were very reasonable and just paid €100 deposit for the hotel with final payment on arrival at the hotel. Hopefully it will all be ok. Can’t wait and it gives us something to look forward to, which we all need after this damn awful year. Also hoping my sister will be able to come over from America in June so that we can go to Wales to scatter my Mum’s ashes. She died from Covid in October at 101 yrs old and my sister couldn’t come to the funeral! sad

TwiceAsNice Thu 14-Jan-21 13:33:02

Before COVID we would self cater just outside Calais twice a year as a family. Would love to do that again this year if it was possible. Haven’t been in a plane anywhere for several years and don’t intend to do so in the foreseeable future. If things improve this year would love to go back to Wales to stay with my friend but don’t know when that can happen. Nothing planned or booked at all.

cupcake1 Thu 14-Jan-21 13:32:43

Definitely not abroad and we love our foreign holidays. We got back from Australia and Singapore in January 20 just as covid was kicking off. Intended to have Christmas 2021 in Florida but there is absolutely no way we would book that now! Had booked Padstow for November last year then January this year both were obviously cancelled and the next one booked for March which will again no doubt be cancelled. It’s my birthday tomorrow (a big one ?) so sad I can’t see family, go for a drive stop and have a picnic (in the car !) overlooking the sea or better still having a slap up meal in a posh restaurant with nearest and dearest. Oh well as long as everyone stays well and avoids this dreadful virus that’s good enough for me.
