Surely when you make a decision to live in a different country from your family, you accept there may be reasons that you can't visit your loved ones? I know that nobody could have foreseen it was going to be for so long and I accept that it is hard but ensuring the greater good of stopping the spread of this virus is more important.

I feel that booking a holiday abroad is quite a gamble at present . And when you gamble, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.

Red? I think it is amber isn’t it?

apologies mokryna- my husband told me he had just heard it on BBC- I should have checked first.

As argued by Richard Madeley and others- the concept of 'amber' is just totally nonsensical. To say it is 'amber' so allowed but you really should not go- is ambiguous and plain daft.

However, yes, amber not red, and apologies again.

But it's not just about holidays is it hamster58? People have to travel abroad for work, business and families too.

Totally agree Ellanvanin. We should all holiday here until it settles everywhere-it’s not like we can’t holiday here quite happily

Haven’t been able to see my family in Germany or Holland for over a year. We keep in touch via internet, decided visiting each other was unnecessary during a pandemic. To help keep all safe.

My daughter is breathing a huge sigh of relief - she got back from her holiday in Portugal last Friday! She stayed in a villa and said the local towns and villages had very, very few tourists and restaurants and activities that would normally be taking bookings or have long queues were virtually empty.

Chewbacca
It’s almost becoming a habit, isn’t it?
Rather sad really when you have to post something/ anything on GN irrespective of the truth.

A 3 word opening post and not one of them accurate! gringrin

Yep, Portugal is going on the amber list from Tuesday next. It’s a shame India didn’t go on the red list as quickly. Britain is in the position it’s in simply because of a delay in adding India to the red list.

on red list.

Another alarmist OP - not true, exaggerated, molehill, mountain... complete the well known saying yourselves
From the BBC website:

Portugal will be removed from the UK's green travel list from Tuesday, amid rising coronavirus cases and concern over a "Nepal mutation of the so-called Indian variant ".
It will join the amber list, meaning holidaymakers should not visit and returnees must isolate for 10 days
Seven nations - including Egypt, Costa Rica and Sri Lanka - will join the red list, with the toughest travel rules

Red? I think it is amber isn’t it?

Yes it is, but doesn’t make such a sensational OP

Some folks travel for work and to visit family it’s not just about jolly holidays

Viruses mutate, regardless of overseas travel.

EllanVannin Thu 03-Jun-21 20:46:52

Nobody will do as they're told will they ? They just can't wait !

EllanVannin Thu 03-Jun-21 20:45:42

Holidays abroad should have been banned all last year and also this year.

Portugal is moving to the Amber list next week, (Tuesday 8th I believe).

At least it gives folks on half-term breaks time to return without facing quarantine.

and this is exactly how Covid spreadsand dangerous variants appear here, again and again sad they should have to quarantine and have PCR test, + PCR tests on day 2 and 8. They would have been mixing with people from many parts of the world and not social distancing. sad

“ At least it gives folks on half-term breaks time to return without facing quarantine.”

Yikes, that sounds more like bad news than good?
