UK Spa Hotel Recommendations

Our passports ran out during Covid and since then we have spent our holidays with family and grandchild in Dorset. However, the 'January Blues' has hit and I'm looking at UK hotels with swimming pools that DH and I could get to by train. I often spend weekends in London visiting DS and would prefer a countryside rather than city break. Trip Adviser is coming up with so many options but then often the feedback is not positive. Any suggestions please?

I would also recommend Pennyhill Park Hotel Bagshot Surrey - best spa in the country. Fab outside heated (like bath water) outside pool - I would swim it even in January. Great indoor pool and plenty of loungers around and amazing other spa features -- great spa restaurant. Have a look at their website. If I won the lottery I would be there every day

Anne60 Pennyhill is also where the English rugby team stay and train when they are competing. I was lucky enough to be there on one such occasion. DH pointed out that whilst I was lounging by the indoor pool that I hadn’t turned over the page in my book in the last 20+ minutes. I respectfully pointed out that if he looked towards the pool he would see the reason why.

Several of the players were exercising up and down in said pool, with their coach and physio on the side. I must say it was excellent entertainment, and I feel no shame at admiring such sublime toned male bodies…

Eden Hall Day Spa in Newark just climbed to the top of our list as a day Spa! They have a hotel and spa in Staffordshire called Hoar Cross Hall (which will probably be our next spa visit!)
Joint 2nd is Ragdale Hall (Leics) and Sopwell House (Herts) and 3rd, Nirvana (Reading - but think that's only a day spa).

Newly single at 63, looking for suggestions on solo holidaying, in desperate need of some sun and looking to travel in the next two months. Never traveled solo before... Suggestions, pitfalls, plusses? Limited budget, looking for possibly 5/7 nights. Hit me with your wisdom 😊

Bishopstrow Hotel and Spa, Warminster. You wld prob need to get a taxi from the station, or it’s about a 30 min walk. It’s really beautiful

Rudding Park in Harrogate, set in beautiful grounds and set between the gorgeous spa town of Harrogate and beautiful Knaresborough both easy to reach by taxi

The problem about booking anywhere ahead if intending to travel by train is that we don’t know more than a couple of weeks in advance if there’ll be a train strike on. But hope you find somewhere really special and it all works out well for you.

Come to Scotland!
I recommend the excellent Golf View Hotel in Nairn, which has spa facilities and hot tub with sea view plus delicious food.

The Quay in Deganwy North Wales is a 5 minute walk from Deganwy train station. It's set right on the Conway estuary. Stunning coast walks to Conway or Llandudno. Great food and spa

I spend every new year at Donnington Valley Hotel and Spa and can recommend it. There’s a lovely golf course there too for healthy walks and fresh air too

The Whinfell Center Parcs spa is good, but unfortunately not close to railway stations.

Just wondering how close to a station you really need to be?
I'd just factor in the costs of a taxi if I was thinking of taking a break (and how long I could sit in one).

An expensive taxi might mean I need to choose a cheaper spa or a less expensive taxi might mean I could spend a bit more...?
