I agree with Notagranyet that it is reassuring to see a police presence on the street and in cars. It isn't just the Games themselves that present a security risk, but everything associated with them in many locations. The Olympic torch possession route is coming to where we are soon. Apparently the flame will be heavily guarded by over 100 policemen, and the carrier of the torch will be protected by 18 police agents dressed as civilians. I read that although the security forces will be on constant alert for possible terrorist threats, their primary concern is about the risk of environmental groups trying to use the events for publicity purposes. Once the Games start properly in Paris, then yes, possible terrorist threats will be top priority.
