How much are you prepared to pay for Hotel breakfast?

Just wondering. We stayed at a lovely Hotel in Salzburg last year, and they were asking 30 Euros per person for a self buffet. We decided to go elsewhere at a lovely Café, and paid 6.50 Euros for croissant, toast/butter/jam, glass of orange juice and coffee.

Would happily pay 15 Euros for a good choice, but if more, we avoid and go out.

McDonald’s Botley Park Hotel in the UK charges £24 pp for breakfast.
I wouldn’t bother if it wasn’t included.

We're prepared to pay 20-£25.

If we're away I like Continental Breakfast, wonderful strong coffee, good breads and jams, lovely fruit. Not full English - though if my husband chooses FE I will take a few of his mushrooms. grin

Norah, full English is another matter. But honestly surprised you woud be prepared to pay that much for continental breakfast menu, however good the coffee is. Each to their own, thanks for all the comments.

I only just noticed that it's 30 Euro's per person so 60 Euros (about £50) for 2 people to have a Continental breakfast. They must be the best pastries and coffee in the world.

It depends how nice the hotel is and their reputation regarding food. If it’s quality, locally sourced 4 or 5 star I’d pay more.

They're obviously better at The Ritz because the Continental breakfast is £46 per head!

The Ritz food is excellent. DH used to nosh there for free at Christmas when the choir sang for the guests! 🎄

I would love to go to the ritz to steal their pastries

If a breakfast wasn't included I would go to a local cafe or bar especially in France/Spain/Italy where the coffee and croissants in these place are invariably delicious

Where is that?

Same price as the Hotel we stayed at in Salzburg, 60 Euros for self serve breakfast for the two of us. Not even cooked fresh or served. Daylight robbery.(4* Hotel). A big no- the local Café across the street was a delight and a fraction of the price. We spent the rest on a nice lunch on a terrasse.

Fleurpepper Sorry. I think I've confused you - I was commenting on your OP, I hadn't noticed before that it was 30 Euro per person. For some reason I was thinking it was 30 Euro for two people (per room).

Joseann Maybe the Ritz serves their pastries on a silver platter?

JaneJudge wait for me while I get my poncho 😆

It depends on the Hotel, £10 at Premier Inn is good value for full English, £15 is common at others, overseas you will pay that for a continental.
We often have a coffee in the room and eat later if it’s expensive.

I have recently won a competition to stay in a 5* boutique hotel in Kensington where the continental breakfast is £45, cooked breakfast is £50, and the afternoon tea starts at £85.

What a great prize NotAGran55
I hope it lives up to its prices!

NotAGran55 Wed 14-Aug-24 17:52:39

It’s a bit daunting to be honest NotSpaghetti as the suite is £1400 a night!
I enjoyed the other part of the prize which was Wimbledon Center Court tickers on quarter finals day.
I’m plucking up courage to book the 2 night stay.

It's usually included in the price of the room, but up to about £25 if I liked the breakfast menu.

If I didn't like the breakfast menu and breakfast was not compulsory as a part of the package then I'd probably go out for breakfast.

NotSpaghetti Wed 14-Aug-24 18:01:39

Don't be daunted! Are you going alone?

I'm sure they will really look after you and it will be a luxurious adventure.
These more "upmarket" hotels are used to all sorts of clients and so the staff will be experienced in making everything smooth for you.

NotSpaghetti Wed 14-Aug-24 18:06:58

Also, NotAGran55 you may even find that's the "going rate" in boutique hotels in Kensington!

... It's a suite so you can take your knitting and lie in the bath all day if you want!
grin

Thanks for the support NS. They have been amazing with their customer service by phone and email, and I was flabbergasted when they said we could defer the date, as it was actually part of the Wimbledon experience.
We live within driving distance, so decided to go home after the tennis as that was enough for one day!
I’m hoping to go with my sister in early December to see the Christmas decorations at night, and the upmarket shops nearby.

AreWeThereYet Wed 14-Aug-24 20:15:56

Sounds amazing NotaGran - have a lovely time. No need to feel daunted at all - the staff will know you won the prize and will treat you like a queen 😀

Fleurpepper Wed 14-Aug-24 20:28:35

NotAgran, wow, what a prize. Enjoy smile
