Didn't Norway leave the EU, or am I wrong?

new europe situation
(85 Posts)Why are the papers full of surprise, shock horror, that british passport holders will be expected to follow the rules for travelling into europe? What did they think would happen when they chose to leave the EU. They chose to become outsiders and now winge about the effects of their choice. When you chose to leave the gang , you are not part of the group any more , and are treated accordingly. Do the British still think they have some right to be treated in some "special" category?
Really don’t see the problem. We have to get visas to the US, Canada etc why not Europe? £7 is not a lot to pay if you can already afford to go…..basically one drink at the airport!

We don't miss paying millions into EU coffers though. It was astronomical.
Ok so please tell me where these missing millions have gone?
The government of the day just doesn’t have to pay any, simple as that.
Cossy, I came back from Malaga and there was no queue at all at the airport at midday.
Walked straight through at Gatwick too. Quietest I’ve ever seen it and I travel frequently.

Why are Remoaners still so bitter. Get over yourselves.
I am extremely angry about leaving Europe. What exactly has it achieve? ZILCH! Give me just one positive. Please dont say about borders. I really really wish I qualified for Irish passport but sadly not. I just hope Scotland rejoins as do my children and grandchildren. Worst decision ever by those who voted leave.
Maremia now where to start with your suggestion? Any clues?
I voted remain, we are out and I will make the best of it, I do like touring Europe and will continue, buying anything from EU is pain now, exporting is also a pain for those that do, Dover port is a pain too. Last time I went out on the tunnel and back on the ferry that was better.
Realistically the best we can hope for is a customs deal
For everyone who is fed up with Rejoiners moaning about BREXIT, the solution is very easy...
make a list of the measurable, tangible, actual and real benefits now enjoyed in the United Kingdom, by the majority of people, that have come directly and specifically and exclusively from that event.
Jackiebackir I’m angry - but not bitter - for many reasons, not least because on a personal level my planned entire retirement was - and is - screwed by the Leave vote. And I will get over what I want, when I want, thanks.
And, of course, it isn’t ’just €7’. Here is a warning about the economic impact for tourism in Kent, and for businesses locally and wider bmmagazine.co.uk/news/port-of-dover-warns-eu-border-system-has-lasting-negative-impacts/?amp
Here is the head of Dover Port’s warning, widely reported around the world this werk, that the port faces paralysis by Easter due to the new system

Cressy - it’s not just UK residents who will need an ETIAS, it’s more or less anyone from anywhere outside the EU. Can’t see a problem myself if travelling to a foreign country. Similar passes are essential for travel to the US and some other countries. Not sure about supplying my fingerprints though.
I hope the UK will operate a similar system to bring in some cash and keep an eye on dodgy incomers.
It’s just a pity that illegal immigrants don’t have to abide by the rules.
I voted Remain
It won’t just be those who voted for Brexit moaning ( if anyone is really moaning,) in fact it’s far more likely that any moaning is by remainers or those who cba to go and vote.
I'm not likely to travel so much now, but have done in the past and usually have to complete some sort of form or visa or have finger prints taken, stare into cameras. It's just part of the joys of travelling and make me feel I'm actually Abroad and not just in another part of my country. And, of course, joy of joys, there's another stamp in the passport to add to the collection! (Since we now have to pay £10 just for the privilege of taking a plane from my local airport, the new 'fee' is negligible.)
Totally agree! UK wanted to protect its borders! So why shouldn’t Europe protect itself as well! Worst decision ever to leave the Union!
Save our borders? 🤣🤣🤣 joke and lie of the century!
Everyone in the UK are losers in this.
At the time of the referendum my DD worked as a tour manager for a UK orchestra. She was on tour in Japan when the result was announced and phoned me in tears, needing me to instsll skype so she could have a conversation where she could see me! Leaving the EU made things much more difficult for musicians to work in the EU and increased her workload hugely applying for visas etc.
Soon afterwards I remember a gransnetter posting that having voted to leave, against the advice of her adult children, her AC were going to be emigrating for work reasons. She was feeling really hard done by, but I had absolutely no sympathy. So many people voted leave as a result of lies told by the leave campaign and who really didn't do their own research. As many have said, we all suffer the consequences of this bad decision whether we voted for it or not, but those who did vote for it really need to stop complaining! And they called remainers 'remoaners'!
It’s no big deal, fingerprints or eye recognition is the way things are going.Passports can be faked but not physical things.
Tourist charges are a good idea for all tourist hot spots both here and abroad.
The money is just a few euros so nobody should be moaning, actually not sure that anyone is, it’s the media who stir things up.
Yes knspol I have same problem every time I visit
We're not in Europe and never have a problem. Although usa doesn't believe our country exists when renting a car.
Most countries are now asking for finger prints or retna scans for entry. It’s a nice money earner. We knew there would be issues in leaving the EU but this show you how controlling they actually are. The EU are nothing but paid hench men and women.
What annoys me is that people who voted for Brexit, immediately applied for an Irish passport via grandparents.
Do I have to pay going into the UK or coming into France? I have both passports but only allowed to stay 30days in the UK.
HS62 : we did also receive monies back from the EuropeanUnion. In our local area , a large and expensive regeneration of the seafront of a nearby town was funded from an EU grant. I expect that there are similar stories in other places.
Sadly, I have been unable to see materialisation of the savings promised at the time.

Well said.

we brought our own demise.. but latest figures show that 59% of people now wish to rejoin the EU... though I rather suspect that they would make it very difficult now
It would be very costly to rejoin I would imagine.
It’s not a question of how much it would cost, it’s accepting their laws and regulations, like freedom of movement and ECJ it’s not a problem for me, a lot of others would object.
