November holiday but not long haul - recommendations please

Glad to read lots of votes for Malta - as we just this evening booked a 5 night stay there for November! I like to swim so found a hotel with an indoor pool. Hope it will be pleasant weather for sightseeing.

Have you considered Cape Verde or Gambia?

We go to Gran Canaria at that time of the year - it’s the most southerly island of the canaries so usually has the better weather.
I can’t recommend any site seeing as we just go to chill and recharge

Southern Croatia- Dubrovnik region?

I've been told Maderia is very nice has temperature similar to Canary Islands. I don't know as I'm literally about to go there on a cruise.

Another vote for Tenerife. Los Christianos is good - also look into the local bus pass (preload with credit) makes journeys even cheaper.

Truly not my cup of tea- but we all differ.

It depends where you stay, I suppose, and what time of year.

November is quieter and not school holidays, apart from half-term, and there are really some very upmarket places to stay.

Booking trips makes it more enjoyable, eg to La Gomera and we found an astronomy trip with dinner up in the mountains interesting too.

I’ve only recently been on my first cruise and loved it, so much so have booked 3 more, in March we are going to the canaries which also includes Portugal and Spain, at least with a cruise you are seeing different places and the journey itself is a holiday

Canaries?

South of France - Cap Ferrat between Nice and Antibes. Beautiful coastal walks; sea and mountains. Recommend Beaulieu sur Mer - nice sized town with shops and restaurants, excellent bus & train links. Easy access to Nice for art galleries etc. Interesting towns - Don't miss Villefranche and wonderful Jean Cocteau murals.

Montenegro is quite nice.

Malta is very interesting and easy to get around on their buses. My old dad loved going there.
We love Malaga as a city to explore, use as a base for train to other places plus bus to Nerja
I didn’t like Nice or Madeira but that is personal preference. I do like Lanzarote as it is less developed than other Canary Islands or La Gomera!

Tavira, Portugal.
Fabulous and a really good place to base yourself.
There are lots of trains or the roads are good if you wish to drive.

We did a holiday on north side of Tenerife in November. It rained every day usually starting with storm c 4 pm and then power cuts later. We were told the south side of island was better for sun and beaches.

If you fancy South Tenerife try the Parque del Sol apartments in Adeje. We think the best apartments in the area. Great location for walks in all directions, near buses, shops & restaurants. More likely to get blue sky than in the North of the island !

We have stayed in Costa Adeje several times but the names of the hotels escape me just now. I love it there.

We did go to the North of the Island and it was like a different country. Drizzled, then rained hard and cooler.

Another vote for Malta. Weather in November is pleasant for walking around and sightseeing. English is spoken throughout. Culture, history, architecture and blue skies. Easy and cheap to travel on buses, especially if you get the weekly unlimited travel card for 25 euros. It also has the benefit of being so small that you can visit many different towns and villages all over. If you go, try to visit Gozo which is a gem, still quaint although fast being ruined by development.

Just come back from Nice lovely temperatures very easy to use trams buses to beautiful villages along the coast line. I’d definitely recommend. 2hr flight. 30 mins from airport.

My sister just got back from Tenerife and said that they were expecting the season to start soon.

Of the places that I have been which have been mentioned so far, I would second Malta and Andalusia.

Definitely NOT the Southern tip of Italy. We were there once September/October and it was filthy and unwelcoming. We love Italy usua!ly and the area has lots to offer, but it was spoilt by the filth and everywhere being shut. My hairdresser goes there in the summer months and says it's lovely and clean in the season.

My sister has an apartment in Los Gigantes, West Tenerife. She always goes out there during November, back for Christmas and out again in January. The weather is very pleasant.

We have just returned from Rethymno in Crete. Weather still high20s. Lovely old town and harbour to stroll around.

If you can stand a four-hour flight, then Antalya in Turkey is my favourite. But you must stay in the old town, Kale Ici, not the inclusive hotels near the beaches. Great restaurants, lovely to wander around. Trips out to historic sites are available by coach.
