Feeling shocked at myself

I've gone and booked us a wee holiday to Jersey next month. I'm usually a person who books months or even years ahead. I just suddenly thought that this is why I retired so we could have holidays at short notice.
Anyway, Jersey looked interesting and a bit different from our usual sort of place. A neighbour who'd lived there recommended a hotel that would suit us and, Bob's your uncle, it's done! Am still in shock.

Thanks. We have GHIC cards and travel insurance. We've actually been to the Isle of Man a few years ago and had a great time. It's a lovely place.

You need a GHIC card. Jersey is not part of NHS. Travel insurance is advisable.

Love Jersey, it will be lovely in June. Check the health provisions as I think we were not covered by NHS there but the EHIC card may cover most it. Perhaps someone else can enlighten you. If the holiday is a success then try the Isle of Man next time, lots to visit and quite old fashioned in a way.

You will have a lovely time in Jersey Aveline. Some beautiful places to visit - beaches, restaurants, historic sites, gardens. Enjoy yourselves.

We've not been before so it's all new to us. There are so many hotels it's hard to choose. We have a package deal with flights included from Expedia. Their website helped me refine our potential choices and a neighbour helped to pick the eventual one.

Hello
I have always wanted to go to Jersey, as my husband has been ill and has mixed dementia, we would like to go quite soon. I do not know if it is allowed on this forum, but if so can anyone recommend a nice comfortable very clean hotel on level roads (no climbing involved) Also places to visit and eat. Thank you so much

Jersey hotels really depend on your budget there are some lovely ones but at a price.
We stay at the Westhill Country Hotel actually first chosen in 2009 as it has a large car park.
Just out of St Helier set in the most beautiful gardens. A shuttle service is provided to St Helier plus the bus stop is just outside the hotel gates. We have our car with us but don’t actually use it.
Repeat guests return year after year it is family owned and service and customer care is second to none.

Well done you! It’s lovely. Have a great time and come back and tell us about it.

Oh dear. Not the best start. Maybe the other flat will be even nicer. Look on the bright side (as nobody ever said to me!). Bon voyage

AmberGran Mon 12-May-25 16:10:30

Thank you both.

Have to admit that it didn't start well when we got an email this morning saying that the apartment we had booked wasn't available and did we want the one they suggested. Having booked the ferry already we weren't left with much choice. Not a major catastrophe but it's not what you want the day before you go.

Have a lovely time Aveline - I'll let them know you are on the way wink

Ambergran, hope you and DH have a lovely restful time. Cancer treatment is very draining - I had mine last Spring, and I'm still tired!

Aveline Mon 12-May-25 16:02:50

Wow AmberGran! Even more impulsive than me. I hope you both have a terrific time. Please send updates.

AmberGran Mon 12-May-25 15:58:42

We've been meaning to have a few days away while DH is in-between cancer treatments and after reading your op yesterday we booked 5 days in Jersey last night. On our way tomorrow first thing, so I'm feeling a bit shocked too shock Busy packing this afternoon.

We loved Jersey. We hired a car for the week and went right round the island. They drive on the same side as us so that wasn't a problem as I drive. You can pick it up at the airport and drop it off on leaving. The War Tunnels were really interesting and also the Gerald Durrell zoo. Loads of places to stop off for food and drink. We also did the ferry to St. Malo in France and a coach trip to Mont St Michel. That was awesome. So take your passport.

Good choice, we went one year when the Flower Festival was on.

There is lots to see and we went around by bus.

DD went to Guernsey on an exchange trip years ago and said how lovely it was but we've never managed to get there (yet).

Another for your list ..the Isle of Man
Such a delightful old fashioned and beautiful scenery, beaches and towns. But don't go in TT weeks!!!

HS62 Mon 12-May-25 14:33:01

I'd love to go there, always have. Maybe I'll add to my list of wants before I drop dead! Xx

Madmeg Mon 12-May-25 14:28:11

Never been but friends have always raved about it. Might join you!!!

"Well done for being spontaneous" duly seconded Go for it !
Interesting to hear about the virtues of the ChannelIslands as a destination.
Will note for future reference.

Glenfinnan Mon 12-May-25 14:01:30

Good for you! How exciting!

escaped Mon 12-May-25 13:58:05

Agree, Guernsey is lovely too.

Aveline Mon 12-May-25 11:17:12

Will certainly check it out. This may be the start of several channel islands trips.

I liked guernsey very much. 20 mph speed limit, all very gentle with some lovely walks. You can probably get a ferry over Aveline.

dogsmother Mon 12-May-25 10:56:55

Oh Aveline do come! Currently very, very pretty. Although if your a royalist you’ve just missed Princess Anne she was visit The Bailiwick for liberation celebrations.

Aveline Mon 12-May-25 10:49:41
