If it’s warm outside, take a cardi or jacket for the tunnels, we found them cold compared with outside when we went.

We are going to Jersey in a fortnight for a week.
I cannot believe in my 62 years it’s my first ever visit.
We have 4 nights on our own and 3 staying with friends who have recently moved there.
We will have a car but hope to do some good walks.
Any tips, suggestions gratefully received.

Just love Jersey. Spent our honeymoon, silver wedding, golden wedding anniversaries and many other years in between there. Sadly not since pre-covid. My favourite is Greve de Lecq, a small harbour and beach on west end of north coast. Did have a lovely cafe, hope it’s still there. Another, less well known place is Noirmont Point, south-west coast. Many military installations from WW11. There is an old railway track from St Aubin towards Corbiere, a lovely walk.
Do hope you enjoy your visit.
I have visited Jersey many times, and think my favourite place is La Hougue Bie, which has a 6000 year old passage grave which you can walk right inside. This is one of the ten oldest buildings in the world. Ther are also two medieval chapels built on top of the mound. In the Second World War a command bunker was built nearby, and it is now used as a memorial and museum for the thousands of European slave workers who lived and died on Jersey. There is also an exhibition of the largest Celtic hoard ever discovered in Europe, which was found in a nearby field. And there is also a replica of a Neolithic longhouse. In my opinion, there is nothing in the whole of Great Britain which contains anything to match this tiny historical site.
We visited many times, we liked it so much we chose to get married there!
For Sarnia - the previous post had said "Try Guernsey" -- hence the "they won't be offended" right afterwards?!
Spent our honeymoon there - 70 years ago! Unfortunately my lovely husband is no longer with me.

Please don’t be offended, Jersey people understand 😉
Understand what, exactly? Offended about what? Please explain.
There is a friendly rivalry especially over the Siam Cup which is the annual rugby union clash between Jersey and Guernsey, and it is the second‑oldest rugby trophy still contested, first played in 1920. There are also a lot of inter island jokes etc but some of us, like me, have relatives both in Jersey and Guernsey, so we need to keep it 'nice'. It is a bit like a family, they are all Channel Islanders but there is a little sibling rivalry!
Will just say as I mentioned the bus service being very good that where the hotels you have chosen are the bus service is not quite so good I believe they are both hourly due to those hotels being a little out of the way of the main busy areas.
Thanks for all your posts.
We actually don’t have much time as we have a day at the Liberation celebration and a day at the races.
We hope to have the four days we have to ourselves to explore on foot and get to know Jersey a bit.
We have a car but don’t intend to use it much.
We will not have time to visit other Islands, Jersey may be small but we want to do it justice.
Otherwise it’s like an American coach trip….York in the morning and Edinburgh in the afternoon!
Compared to the UK Jersey is tiny you will have time for Guernsey and the other islands, enjoy.
I'm reading all the posts and wishing myself right back there again. We stayed in St Brelades Bay Hotel, which was great, although quite formal. Across the road, a row of restaurants, including Pizza Express
One of the restaurants may have been attached to the back of the Atlantic, we had a nice fish meal there. The actual bay is magnificient with the small church of St Brelades at one end of the bay. There's also a road that winds up at the church end to would you believe a Waitrose, we walked up to it to get our Sunday papers. Much easier on the way down the road is steep. Buses were a good way to get around we did that to go to St Hellier via the lovely adjacent town to us St Aubin. I really like the French feel to the island, not surprising it's far closer to the French mainland. Guernsey sounds charming too, I think it would be another lovely place to visit. My husband gets sea sick so we have to fly. I think that's more difficult although I know Guernsey as small as it is, has it's own airline.

SpinDriftCoastal Thank you for the information, the walks from the hotels sound right up our street.
We are are lunch guests at the Pomme D’Or for the Liberation Day celebrations so very much looking forward to that.
Do you live on Jersey?
Wow! That is super that you are lunch guests at the Pomme D'Or. You will love it. My grandfather was a Jersey man and we still have relatives there hence the background knowledge. I really am so pleased for you visiting, and especially maytime. Bon Voyage, Bonne Appetit.

We've booked to go to Guernsey. We have never been to the Channel Islands. I hope it is as nice as Jersey sounds.
Guernsey is smaller and not so commercialised as Jersey. Sark and Herm are much easier to get to from Guernsey. Enjoy and give it my love.

Lucky you.
Went a few years ago and had a brilliant time.
Do take a ferry to a couple of the other Islands too.
War tunnels, Gerald Durrells Zoo, bus tour, little land train around part of the coast, lovely boat trips around the coast, amazing beaches and bays, trip to St Helier, hire a car for a few days, it’s so small and easy to see entire island.
Enjoy the seafood, it’s amazing, have a great trip!
The Liberation Day celebrations really are something. The place to be is down by the Pomme D'Or Hotel where the Island turns out for the parade, songs, and speeches. All the islanders who are still alive from the Occupation get priority seating. It must be appreciated that the Island was on its knees in May 1945 and no one was more welcome than the British Soldiers as they entered the harbour to warm welcomes and cheers from the islanders. So many of the older generation still tell their stories of extreme deprivation during those war years.

Thank you all, keep them coming, the Glass Church looks interesting, I am a big Lalique fan so that’s on the list.
We are having a tour of the tunnels after the Liberation Commemoration lunch.
Our first hotel is St Brealde area (Atlantique) and the second is Rozel area (Chateau La Chaire)
We like to do as much on foot as possible, we tend to do around 12 miles a day on holiday.
dogsmother We are spending time with friends who have just moved to Jersey and taking part in the liberation celebrations, we will not be visiting Guernsey.
Just read your further post. From the Atlantic Hotel you can go on foot to Corbiere Lighthouse (word Corbiere comes from Jerriais word for Crow. They have lived there for a thousand years). Also, on the way to the lighthouse from your hotel, there is an ancient dolmen called La Sergente which is about 4000 years old. From your hotel you will have a complete sweep of the bay. At Rozel, at the Chateau La Chaire, you must explore the lane that leads up from the hotel which takes you into the countryside at St Martin's. An early morning walk around Rozel Harbour is beautiful and catch it on the high tide. The grounds at the Chateau are also worth a walk around - there is a full history attached to them. We've stayed there several times.

You will be amazed at how pretty St Peter Port is. You feel transported back in time. Also, visit Haute Ville, Victor Hugo's house, Candy Gardens, etc.

Take the trip over to Sark and Herm. Fabulous.
Oh. I wish we could go back right right now. We had such a lovely time there last June.
Try the littel fishing harbours on the north coast, Rozel, Bouley Bay, Bonne Nuit, and Greve de Lecq. Park at St Lawrence Church and explore the lanes behind the church to find the real Jersey. Also, St Martin's Church, St Catherines. The west coast is amazing with sand dunes that go down to the sea. Lots to explore along that coast - L'Etacq, and Les Landes, and Grosnez. Restaurants I would recommend are Mark Jordan at the Beach for fab sea food, the Beach Club at St Brelade's Bay, Gorey just below the castle also has some lovely restaurants like The Moorings. St Aubin's is well worth a walk around and perhaps a lunch at the Somerville Hotel. May is by far the best time to visit as all the spring flowers and trees are out and it is not so busy. Have fun!
The Somerville Hotel in St Aubin is lovely. Beautiful location overlooking the bay.
We did a mini bus tour. It was great. Lots of little lanes that we'd never have found plus a very knowledgeable and entertaining driver/guide.
All of the above.
There was also a butterfly farm, if I remember correctly, don't know if it is still there.
Jersey Zoo is worth a visit, as others have mentioned. It is the headquarters of Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, founded by author and naturalist Gerald Durrell
