Gran Canaria in February?

Thinking about booking a holiday for DH birthday in February, and research reveals that the south coast of Gran Canaria is a good choice for not-too-long haul warm-ish weather and sunshine mid-Feb. Any suggestions from other GNs? We've travelled extensively, but never been to the Canaries. We like walking and sightseeing, and a bit of beach/pool but not all day every day. A comfortable and fairly quiet hotel and area.

We are going to Gran Canaria in January.

Last year we went to an extreme nice all-inclusive in Lanzarote walking distance to both beach and a very nice small harbour.

Weather was lovely, not too hot. Food was fabulous.

Understand Gran Canaria is slightly prettier than Lanzarote and we have a 1 bedroomed AirB&B, overlooking the beach and a short walk from bars etc.

All the Canaries are perfect for holidaying in the winter.

We went to a town in Gran Canaria called Puerto de Mogan . It’s quite small and very pretty with a marina and a few canals . Plus a beach . We had a car and toured around but I did see bus stops .

Puerto de Mogan is very pretty. It's all on the flat. The beach is small but there are lots of lovely restaurants and some nice shops..

You might want to look up weather warnings from responsible bodies such as the Met Office and consider the likelihood of chaotic weather from the coming El Niño. I wouldn't want to be on an island anywhere.

The "Super El Niño" weather phenomenon is driving significantly hotter and more extreme weather across the Canary Islands. In Gran Canaria, this translates to heightened heatwave risks, record-breaking temperatures, and occasional gale-force winds with rough seas that can impact beaches and coastal areas.

I am going to the Canaries in August, three generation holiday, determined by school, college and work.

I expect it to be hot, busy and probably ££££

We have not been to Gran Canaria in February, but have been twice in January and going again this coming January. We have stayed in Puerto de Mogan, a quiet resort, and a lovely hotel called Hotel Cordial Mogan Playa, they offer B&B or Half Board (very few hotels in GC offer all inclusive as they like local businesses to benefit from tourist trade too). PdM is in the south of the island and is a nice resort, a range of lovely restaurants and bars. In the winter it attracts a slightly older crowd but then we always go outside of school holidays so I can't comment regarding half-term etc. Loads of activities at our particular hotel (2 pools, aquaerobics, bowling, yoga, football, tennis, etc.) and a flat level walk (of about 10 mins) to the beach and marina. Small shopping centre bang opposite with some bars and restaurants and a Hiperdino supermarket. Flat level walks around town, and buses to other resorts and to Las Palmas the capital. Twice we have taken a couple of days in Las Palmas to sightsee and then moved on to PdM. Hope you find somewhere you like. Keep us posted.

Addendum to my last message. If you join the BeCordial club (online and free) you get 7 nights for the price of 6, and some discounts at the bar/food (I think it's 10%).

You need to remember that it gets dark early so although it stays very warm it will be dark by 5 or 6.00pm. Some hotels close their outside bar and only run the indoor one.

Perfect for winter holidays. We stayed there in early March and it was lovely.

In the early 50s my Uncle built some of the first hotels out there. It was not commercialised at all then. He and his brother had a building business and moved their families out there for several years. Two of my cousins were born out there. When they returned to Ireland they named their house Las Palmas.
