Ruth's mother, Heather, is very old and frail and Ruth's been travelling to Prudhoe to see what can be done about getting her into assisted care. The stubborn old biddy ain't having it so Ruth expects David to sell up and move to Northumberland just so she can be near her mum!

One of the daftest storylines ever.

Littleflo- there are 2 strands to the Ruth/David story - one is a proposed new road which would negatively affect Brookfield and change the nature of the farm and the second is Ruth's mum's fall and her resultant poor health . The two together have resulted in the completely unbelievable storyline of a plan to move oop North - as if! I'm with Merlot regarding the imminent demise of Heather

The David/Ruth/Prudhoe storyline can easily be resolved by killing off Heather. Expect a phone call any day.

So poor old Hayley packs her trunk and says goodbye to the circus. Will Roy now whip out his tent again and seek to regain his former position with Elizabeth? Who would be on top this time? Who will be the next celebrity to turn up in Ambridge? Where is Prudhoe? Where are Jennifer and Brian? Has Jazzer gone off to join the SNP? Are they all leaving to avoid getting dragged in to Linda's next Christmas production? I think we need to know!

That "American" folk song could have easily have been in use over here as well. I would be very hesitant about where that originated. Folk songs and tunes travel all over the place.

Icannot see Ruth and David moving to Prudhoe or Mike Tucker really wanting to move to Birmingham.
I am quite sure rural Borsetshire must have have proper educational facilities for children with special needs. I wonder if Borsetshire council has website.

Bringing in the Sheaves was written in 1874 so I can well imagine it was used in Protestant Churches - particularly Methodist ones as they love a good sing - in this country.

Ambridge church has never seemed very "high" to me and when Doris was young it would just have been the church of a small farming village so I can imagine it could have been used in the church services she attended.

Doris was played by Gwen Berryman. When I was about 8 I presented a bouquet to Harry Oakes wife (he was opening a Scout fete) and was quite surprised to find she wasn't Doris Archer

I met Dan Archer once at a GP friend of mines funeral. He was a charming man in real life.

What didn't I spot? Mind you, the tune is very similar to Brennan on the Moor. Perhaps Doris was into Irish highwaymen.

Yes Galen Dan`s the man. Doris and Dan were the original couple in the series. Good point about Bringing in the Sheaves grumppa didn`t spot that one

I was convinced we used to sing it at Sunday School, then my DH said he'd only heard it on westerns and The Little House on the Prairie and I now think that is where I know it from. Perhaps Doris used to enjoy a good cowboy film too?

Baffled by the Archers yet again. Would an American gospel song (Bringing in the Sheaves) really have been a favourite of Doris Archer's?

No, you aren't gracesgran, my feeling it he's keen to develop a special relationship with Henry, one in which men are good and brave,and women just a bit silly.

He may not be a bad person but he is very unreconstructed for someone of his age. Am I being a bit weird in worrying what his relationship with Henry will actually be?
