I loved this programme and the new series starts in two weeks, only ten episodes this time instead of twenty.Sara Lund wears a new jumper, a red one, but after showing the series in Denmark in her new jumper, the fans didn't like it, so half way through she wears again her patterned one!!! Anyone not seen the first series, watch this, it is absolutely brilliant.

Very hooked on The Killing. Watched series one thanks to a friend who told us we should!
Now we looked forward to progressing with Sarah Lund and her red jumper.
Incidentally we have also been advised (same friend) to watch French "Spiral" so am requesting Series 1 & 2 for Christmas. comments please?
If bad weather in the future then there will be time to watch......smile

janthea; it's a bit like one of those books [eg Captain Corellis Mandolin] where you get a series of chapters about different people and then, as the book progresses the characters become intertwined, getting denser and more complicated, all the while drawing you in. Jacey, if it wasn't for my damned mouse problem I'd be with you...thank goodness I didn't discover it before the 20 part series!

janthea Tue 22-Nov-11 14:41:52

I may have to give it a try.

Thanx crimson ...just fritterred away smile or wasted?? confused a couple of hours on that site.

janthea I almost missed out on the first series for the same reason. I watched the first episode on iPlayer and wasn't taken by it at all; fortunately I was at a loose end some weeks later and decided I would give it a go again and ended up completely hooked. My husband almost never watches anything on iPlayer (we have no TV), but I insisted he watched the repeats of series one and he too became completely engrossed in the storyline, even staying up really late to watch some of the episodes. Series two will be the first series of programmes that my husband and I have actually planned to watch together.

Sorry - couldn't get into it at all!!

I have enjoyed the first 2 episodes and am interested by the relationship between the new politician and his secretary and civil servant (?)/adviser as well as the crimes so far.

After a few episodes the old white jumper with a pattern returns. I enjoyed it, Sara Lund is the best detective ever, hardly speaks, but is thoughtful and intelligent. Her home life is still in tatters, even bought her son for his birthday a hoodie which didn't fit properly. I gather this series is much 'darker' and puts Sara into dangerous situations. What is interesting, the writer of the series, writes each episode as it practically happens. The cast have no idea what to expect from one week to the other.

Just google The Guardian blog; The Killing, then click on 'replies'..411 so far. I missed this when I saw the first series. I'm not sure if I'll understand the political stuff; liked the way the first one was a 'whodunnit' and let the political bit wash over me.

Jacey Mon 21-Nov-11 19:53:39

crimson how do I access the Guardian blog??

Actually enjoyed the first two episodes ...but a bit concerned it is going down the political route again ...but perhaps that's what is important to Danish audiences hmm

Prefer the red jumper to the original ...but not sure I understand how to create the actual 'pattern' confused

Crimson thanks for your thoughtful response. thanks

Mishap;Check out the Guardian blog; you can discuss your theories with other like minded people. grannyactivist; my one concern is the storyline of this series; I hope you don't find it touches a few raw nerves with you..I wouldn't want that to happen.

Mishap Sun 20-Nov-11 22:30:23

I was as impressed with the first two episodes of series two and will no doubt be glued to it for the duration!

crimson Sun 20-Nov-11 21:56:14

It hasn't 'grabbed' me in the way the first series did, but I think perhaps that took a few episodes to work it's magic. Repeated on Wednesday night so I'm going to re watch it [can't record things!]. I wonder if there's a blog going on about it somewhere..there was for the first series..The Guardian I think.

grannyactivist Sun 20-Nov-11 21:20:35

Husband's away and I'm looking after poorly grandson, so haven't caught up with the new series yet. Has anyone got any observations?

ameliaanne Wed 16-Nov-11 13:25:08

LOVED the first series! Always record the episodes as I am not too good at sitting in one place for any length of time without fidgeting........ Looking forward to Series 2.

crimson Tue 15-Nov-11 21:33:11

She's going to be on the French and Saunders Christmas show, I believe; with sweater.

olliesgran Tue 15-Nov-11 20:36:39

I really enjoyed the first serie. Real program for adults, not kidults, and its following shows that there is an audience for this sort of program, so why are they so rare?? Can't wait for the second serie to start on Saturady, but a bit afraid that they won't be able to sustain such quality? Fingers crossed

Hattie64 Tue 15-Nov-11 20:22:59

Its official, it starts this coming Saturday, two, one hour episodes. In the Radio Times there is even a knitting pattern for the new red sweater!!!

raggygranny Sun 06-Nov-11 19:52:19

Really looking forward to the new series as I was totally hooked by the first. And for the hard-of-hearing like me the integrated subtitles are bliss - so much better than the black band that obscures some of the picture, with some of the dialogue missed out or abbreviated, which is what you get with the regular subtitling on UK TV.

Hattie64 Sun 06-Nov-11 19:26:18

I love my 'automatic view thingy' in my case a Virgin box, tapes series etc. without me reminding it. Also catch up tv is great as well. We mainly have Virgin for Sky sports, which I loath, my old mans favourite viewing!!!

Jacey Sun 06-Nov-11 13:15:03

Thanx Hattie64 ...will program it into the automatic view thingy!!

JessM Sun 06-Nov-11 09:25:57

I will put it on xmas list maybe. I never know what to "ask for" other than Oxfam toilets etc.

crimson Sat 05-Nov-11 21:35:21

The box set was really cheap soon after the series ended but i'm afraid i'ts shot up in price now. They repeated it on BBC4 not long ago. The more I think about it, the more I realise the music was very important. And scandinavian films and television are happy to use older women.

JessM Sat 05-Nov-11 21:14:57

i watched the first 4 episodes on plane. Rather annoying - they didn't have the whole series available. Might have to get the box set. I thought the acting so absorbing that subtitles were not a problem. I had a strange parallel universe experience on another plane where they had a really dire american version. Same story with bad acting etc. Rather a dream like experience. I turned off.
