I loved this programme and the new series starts in two weeks, only ten episodes this time instead of twenty.Sara Lund wears a new jumper, a red one, but after showing the series in Denmark in her new jumper, the fans didn't like it, so half way through she wears again her patterned one!!! Anyone not seen the first series, watch this, it is absolutely brilliant.

Love the 'Killing' (both series) but like some other Grannies out there, was a bit lost at times. Wonder whether some things were lost in translation or perhaps I was dozing when I should have been reading the sub-titles. As it is always on at 9 p.m. on a Saturday, usually after a super meal cooked by himself washed down with a fine bottle of something red, white or pink, perhaps I should just record and watch first thing in the morning!

Well done you Grannyactivist. I find myself floundering as to who did what with these non English Language progs because there is not that give away clue of it usually being one of the best known actors who is the villain. It usually starts with them only being around a little bit in the early part and you find yourself wondering why such a high profile actor would be doing such a small part............but then the penny drops! With The Killing et al you dont know any of the actors and it makes for a lot more fun!

This series generated a huge amount of discussion in our home; husband and I couldn't leave the thing alone, we had to revisit every twist and turn in the story. Now we need to buy the DVD so that we can watch it again in light of knowing 'whodunnit'. I was in smug mode at the end as I had correctly worked out the who and how, explaining my reasoning to husband who was admiring of my deductive skills. (smug emoticon)

Without giving the plot away for those who haven't yet watched the final episodes, I couldn't work out what Bilal had done that was so bad that he had to do what he did (if that makes sense!). Had to go to the Guardian blog for enlightenment!

MaggieP Mon 19-Dec-11 11:02:50

Thoroughly enjoyed the last two episodes, we do find we have to discuss it to make sure we have followed it all..
Roll on Series three next year!
Meanwhile they also advertised another Danish series Borgen,in the New Year with Jan Meyer, Lund's dead colleague from series one.

Hmm - I was a bit disappointed, too many holes in the plot....

gracesmum Sun 18-Dec-11 16:26:37

I have just watched the final episodes on iPlayer but won't say anything to spoil it for afficianados who may not have seen them yet. Suffice it to say there was a fair amount of "NO!!" "OMG" and similar exclamation from this end!

Please tell me what you think tomorrow. I still found it compulsive viewing, but feel I need to read an 'idiots guide to...' I'll go on the Guardian blog and see what they say! I need to piece it all together. What I like about the series is the way that they don't have botoxed, airbrushed actors/actresses; they are all so real.

My husband insisted on staying up to watch episodes 7 and 8 tonight even though we're tired out after a busy day and will probably have a disturbed night with poorly grandson. Husband very rarely watches anything on iPlayer, but finds The Killing to be compulsive viewing. We'll watch the last two episodes tomorrow.

Well, I enjoyed it but have to admit to not understanding any of it.

syberia Thu 01-Dec-11 09:31:31

We have been extremely naughty and downloaded the rest of the series and are watching 2 episodes a night to feed our addiction blush

petallus Wed 30-Nov-11 17:28:55

I just googled Fanden and it means satan or the devil in Danish. So we still don't know.

I can't remember when he turned up on the first series, near the end I think. Didn't she have another 'boss'. I am confident that Sara won't let her new nice partner get killed, 'fanden' if she does!!! I bet that word means something completely different.

Jacey Sun 27-Nov-11 11:39:39

yes ...the sweater ...it was the dark grey one ...had forgotten there were two versions of it (as an earlier GN had said) ...but actually prefer the red one ...may try knitting that one when my skills improve hmm

Anyone else reckon she's going to get another partner killed?

And ...can anyone one remember how Brix became head of the police in the first series? ...wasn't there something sinister about it?

gracesmum Sat 26-Nov-11 23:14:36

All is well - Lund is wearing the snowflake sweater againsmile
I was amused to see a "strong language" warning when I watched it on iPlayer last Sunday - a bit pointless considering the whole thing is in foreign!

grannyactivist Sat 26-Nov-11 17:21:55

My husband is constantly telling me that the translations are different from what's actually being said. For example whenever you see blaspheming subtitled what is actually said is about the devil. Even the title is not The Killing, but The Crime. (I think that's what my husband said.)

crimson Sat 26-Nov-11 17:16:31

According to Insults.net 'fanden'; however there seem to be a few variations and different words. Will we all be glued to tonight's episode listening out for 'fanden'..and does anyone realise how NAUGHTY we can be on Gransnet...wink.

JessM Sat 26-Nov-11 15:32:53

Do you want me to find out? I have a mate who learned Danish... he'll know

Hattie64 Fri 25-Nov-11 20:21:32

I am intrigued to know what is the word for f--k in Danish!!!

petallus Thu 24-Nov-11 20:35:15

I loved The Killing and am already into Killing2. Also loved Spiral and am presently watching Braquo. Have watched all the Wallenders with at least three different actors in the title role. Can't vouch for this bit of gossip but someone told me that when doing the subtitles for Killing2 a lot of f...s were left out as it was considered there were too many!!

MaggieP Wed 23-Nov-11 21:48:59

Many thanks for your comments. I think I need to watch The Wire as well then!

Hattie64 Wed 23-Nov-11 19:41:32

I really like 'Spiral', I have seen all the series. The repeat recently was Series 1. Yes it is a bit violent. Perhaps I am just addicted to world television/films, especially anything French.
Now 'The Wire' that is my absolute favourite, fantastic. I cannot praise it enough. I was given the first series as a present and went out and bought the rest. I ended up watching it during the afternoon, which is something I never do. When it finally finished I was acutely distressed!!! I am seriously thinking of watching it all again.

grannyactivist Wed 23-Nov-11 13:14:52

Hated Spiral; watched one and a half episodes and that was enough sex, violence and bad language for me!

crimson Wed 23-Nov-11 10:45:14

More violent than The Killing and less subtle. Watched it after The Killing had ended to fill the 'Saturday night with subtitles' gap. The lead actress is of the same mould as Sarah Lund, but the series [imo] is not of the same standard as the Killing and Wallander. Having said that, I wouldn't want to put you off getting it; I watched the [I think] third series, and wished I'd seen earlier ones. Something I do need to see is The Wire, my daughter says it's the best thing she's ever seen on the telly but it's a case of 'so much to do, so little time'.
