jeni Sat 12-Jan-13 22:49:24

Ana Sat 12-Jan-13 22:50:39

sad grin

jeni Sat 12-Jan-13 22:51:05

broomsticks Sun 13-Jan-13 14:30:26

Ooh, a moon. I didn't know we had moons. Very Merlin some how. moon

Stansgran Tue 15-Jan-13 20:39:45

No good all this. Still prefer Malory

jeni Tue 15-Jan-13 21:20:57

Or Spencer?

jeni Tue 15-Jan-13 21:23:31

Spenser!

jeni Tue 15-Jan-13 21:26:41

Actually, Geoffrey of Monmouth and Chretien de Troyes !

j07 Tue 15-Jan-13 21:32:53

What about Gildas the monk? Or more, recently, Geoffrey Ashe?

Yes. You are all clever clogs. Well done. hmm

j07 Tue 15-Jan-13 21:33:46

For Gods sake don't forget Tennyson.

jeni Tue 15-Jan-13 21:44:12

I've seen Merlins oak! So theregrin

jeni Tue 15-Jan-13 21:44:43

Sorry pedants Merlin's oak!

Stansgran Wed 16-Jan-13 13:46:46

And the woods in Huelgoat. Enchanted place

broomsticks Wed 16-Jan-13 17:40:21

Don't like Mallory. They spend all their time having 'ado' which seems to mean either fighting or sex.

Stansgran Wed 16-Jan-13 21:11:43

Yes but Sir Lancelot rode off at a great wallop. Don't think any writer can beat Malory still makes me smile

jeni Wed 16-Jan-13 21:18:56

Prefer McGonagall! Scotland's finest poet!

broomsticks Thu 17-Jan-13 14:38:53

I've just reread The Once and Future King and I still love it, apart from the last book which is ... depressing!

j07 Thu 17-Jan-13 15:38:09

I could not get on with that one. Really don't like it.

j07 Thu 17-Jan-13 15:44:05

Love the Kevin Crossley-Holland books. And Bernard Cornwell. And Persia Woolley.

Loved the Crystal Cave, Mary Renault, books but couldn't read them again now. They were a good introduction.

j07 Thu 17-Jan-13 15:45:16

I don't believe anyone can really enjoy the older, more original, versions of the legend.

broomsticks Fri 18-Jan-13 11:29:24

I still reread the Crystal Cave series and Mary Renault. I know what you mean though some favourites don't work when you read them again.

j07 Fri 18-Jan-13 11:57:52

I will be honest. I got so all consumed with the Crystal Cave stories, I daren't read them again! They pervaded my life! Can you understand that? hmm smile

jeni Fri 18-Jan-13 12:58:19

The king must die?

j07 Fri 18-Jan-13 13:16:33

blush I have been getting my "Marys" muddled up. It should have been Mary Stuart (Crystal Cave books).

The Mary Renault books I read recently were about Alexander the Great. (very good too)

That one looks good jeni. Dare I download another book to kindle? #mustreadmore
