Life of Pi

Loved the book and was afraid the film might be a bit of a let down. It wasn't ! Wonderful acting, hugely moving and thought provoking. Still thinking about it.

Someone at work this morning had seen it; they agreed it was amazing; had quite a long discussion about it [more fun than working ].

I was a The Life of Pi bore at work today!

Just been speaking to a friend who's read the book and she pointed out the book was very much about mathematics and probability. So the bit at the beginning probably weaved it's way throughout the actual story as well.

I went to see Life of Pi in 3D and I thought it was just wonderful, didn't want it to end. I haven't read the book but I am going to now. Went to Quartet and was very disappointed. Lots of good films out at the moment.

Had another glowing report on Les Mis today as well from a neighbour. Audience spellbound for 3 hours and clapping at the end. How lucky are we at the moment. Although Lincoln is bound to win the Oscars . And I still haven't seen The Hobbit...I thi nk there are two kinds of film; ones that you can enjoy just as much on dvd and those that have to be seen big, and there are a lot of 'big' films out at the moment. Almost takes me back to my childhood when the works treat for the children one year was to see How the West Was Won in cinemascope [I still love that film].

Bought the book today; looking at it briefly it looked a slightly lighter read to what I was expecting [ie the words were quite big; I was expecting a 500 pager with tiny writing]. At least when I've seen Les Mis [hopefully tomorrow] I can still get a Life of Pi fix when I need one, by dipping into the book!

I'm so pleased that the Motion Picture Academy agreed with me (see my earlier post!) and gave the best director Oscar to Ang Lee for Life of Pi and also gave the film the best effects Oscar.

Same here. It deserved to win best film as well but the general opinion seems to be that Argo won because it was the film that 'nobody disliked' and I think they were embarrassed at not being able to award it to Lincoln. As they said on Film Night, people will still be watching/talking about Pi in 10/20 years time long after Argo has been forgotten. Don't agree with Jennifer Lawrence winning best actress, even though she's one of my favourite actresses; think she was given it because she deserved an Oscar for Winters Bone. Still plan to see Pi again.

The Natural World programme, Queen of Tigers which reminded me very much of the beginning of the film is being repeated tonight on BBC2 at 8.30. A must for anyone who loves tigers. Beautifully filmed.

Thanks Tegan - love all big cats but tigers are so powerful and charismatic.

We saw it last week. It was our first 3D experience. I liked it and enjoyed the effects but DH was thoroughly bored.
