OMG OMG OMG Les Mis!

Overly sentimental, historically inaccurate, worlds apart from the musical ..... loved it .... just fab!

I really enjoyed it too! Cried most of my way through it, but then I enjoy a good weep. Still humming the songs, to the annoyance of my nearest and dearest

I have booked to go and see it for the second time on Tuesday. I have also bought the album soundtrack and have the 25th anniversary CD. Now I need to get to see the stage show.

Went with the WM tonight and sobbed my way through 'Empty Chairs at Empty Tables'.

I know it's only a film, but one can't help thinking of wartime losses and sacrifices that are still occurring. (Well, I couldn't anyway.)
There was a round of applause at the end and I thought that Hugh Jackman (who I'd barely heard of previously) was exceptionally good.

oh hell it will make me cry too!! still want to go see it if we can if we ever get straight from the decorating!!

Absolutely fantastic! Do go and see it. Very moving, brilliantly acted and for once, the Christian themes weren't travestied. Take some tissues or a hanky.[sobbing emoticon]

I hadn't realised how long ago the book was written [I'm trying to find out as much as possible about the American Civil War as we're seeing Lincoln tonight, and it was mentioned in the civil war documentary that I'm watching, and that's 1860'ish].

Saw the film last week, I enjoyed it but DH was ready to get up and leave (I said I would see him at home) but he stayed! The singing was amazing, Russell Crowe nothing special but Hugh Jackman - well what can I say!! I didn't think the scenery was very realistic, were they trying to copy a theatre set I wonder? Have just seen Lincoln which we enjoyed but I must say I was getting a bit confused re which side the politicians were on in the House! DH was gripped by it, sometimes wonder whether we have anything in common!

sweetpea; Having just got through the first 3 hours of Ken Burns documentary on the Civil War [8 hours to go] I haven't got the faintest idea of who is on which side where or when and keep wanting to find out things such as how did troops get from one end of America to the other in such a short space of time etc [also, who made all the uniforms so quickly and how did they get the cotton for them if it came from the south and they were at war with them?]. Without giving too much away did the film show the metal boats that were made for the war; I found that amazing?

well we saw it, after stressful day!! is long while to sit and my knees became painful and restless!! very early on!!

It was very moving at the end, and thought photography and music was very good, cannot really remember story from play, is clearer in the film, hated it when little boy shot.

An enjoyable experience, and cinema full!! our showing was, and there was another one in different screen, so very popular.

I went to see it last night it was my first visit to the cinema in years .

Absolutely loved it.

They created these amazing metal boats for the war sweetpea; I think that, once I'd read your post I knew what I was in for last night and I was right. I don't think the film taught me anything about Lincoln other than the fact that he was forever spouting forth boring anecdotes [which DDL did very well, albeit boringly]. Still it made me realise how much I'd enjoyed Les Mis in comparison.

Les Mis was the first film I've gone out to see since Slumdog. Yes, really must get out more, its getting too easy just to sit in and moan about the TV. So any suggestions about what other films out there are worth a visit to the cinema?

I haven't seen Les Mis yet, but plan to do so soon. Kali, try Life of Pi. I don't know what you'll think of it, as it has divided opinion, but you will certainly be impressed by the effects at least as much as by the story. I know Tegan will agree.

I spent a lot of time at the cinema the other night discussing Life of Pi with one of the girls who works at our cinema and we both agreed that it was one of the most thought provoking films we'd ever seen [I've got to give her those websites that were mentioned on the Life of Pi thread so we can discuss it further]. Thankfully Silver Linings Playbook is coming back for a short time [that's a feel good film I think] which I missed first time round. No longer on at the cinema but Untouchable is another feel good film which I'd recommend. I loved Slumdog . anno; I'll be interested to hear what you think of Les Mis..I fear that I was still too much in Life of Pi world to lose myself in the film.

We still haven't managed to get to see Les Mis. Next Tuesday is the next hopeful date. Sigh.

Finally seen it. I thought it was stunning. Yes, the empty chairs song got me as well and the finale was brilliant.

Every time this thread comes back into view it sets the songs off in my head again, but it is much better than Big red combined harvester which DGD has been singing all week
