I also prefer the old format and liked it better on a Sunday. I am afraid I will have to disagree about Charles, I think he is an extremely arrogant man who definately thinks we are all below him, whereas I don't. He is doing a job and gets very well paid for it and doesn't live a bad life.(Enough about that)
I used to look forward to the weeks weather on a Sunday morning on countryfile, I wonder why they have to change things in the name of progress or viewing figures?

The trailers come so early that by the time the programme is actually on I've long since lost interest and usually miss it.

Is it just me or are other people actually put off programmes by the trailers? I see a trailer for something that looks interesting and then by the time They've trailed it for the 50th time I've lost all interest in it.

Matter of interest my DH has been on Countryfile and Country tracks with the Black Squirrels! my only claim to fame except for my 18 month only son poking Sir David Attenboroughs nose with his finger

I agree Flower, I much prefer the old format. This new trend of jumping back and forth with loads of 'sound bites' and recaps is most annoying. I think they do it to use up more air time and suspect longer items take more thought.

The BBC have been using trailers for ages now to bring their programme lengths in line with advertising channels. Dumbing down again.

Off track a little but I used to love the old presenters of Countryfile and the old style. Must watch the Prince episode though on catchup

I have always thought Prince Charles got an undeserved bad press possibly because he gets fed up with all the stupid questions and suppositions about him. He obviously very much enjoys the freedom of the countryside, as he said, and the amount of work he does for charitable organisations is rarely mentioned - because it is "good" news. Go Charlie!

Yes, I thought it was me being grumpy but Julia Bradbury did make for uncomfortable watching..I thought she was quite patronising towards our dear Charlie - almost as though she was indulging an old chap who was talking about his hobby.
I liked his honest enthusiasm for basic hard work. Ok so he's privileged but he chooses to get. down to basic work and obviously enjoys it. Loved his coat!

I like Matt - anyone who is an ex gymnast and likes Border Collies can't be all bad!!!

I agree about JB and the Wainwright walks in the Lake District. We really enjoyed watching her doing all that walking in the mist and rain.
She is too loud now and when she presents alongside Matt Baker the two of them are like a couple of giggly schoolkids on a day out. Matt Baker is obsessed with being the centre of attention and cuts people short when they are talking - especially on the One Show.

I'm sure most people find them entertaining though. We're just a couple of grumpy old codgers.

Gully and sel, I saw a Come Dine With Me programme a few years back with Julia as a participant. She behaved like a ladette, drinking too much and being loud. I didn't mind her until then, and enjoyed watching her walking in the Lake District. Now she irritates me.

Couldn't watch it this week as angel next door popped round for a drink. Didn't think to record it! Silly me

gulligranny not just me then with Julia. I think Charles came over rather well, almost got his hands dirty and I do think he has a genuine interest in the countryside and it's preservation. Probably helps that Camilla is a countrywoman.

Loved HRH on Countryfile, although I have to say it's a programme I can only watch rarely as I loathe Julia "I'm so sexy and clever and I wear little short jackets to show off my bum" Bradbury!

I enjoyed this weeks Countryfile and thought the knowledge of HRH was impressive indeed he certainly enjoyed visiting the school and showed genuine interest in what the children where achieving.Adam Henson's love of rare breeds and his involvement of bringing rare breeds back into some kind of acceptable levels can only be commended.

He didn't need a shave. It's the modern look. Matt Baker's main job is television. Why would he change his look for meeting Prince Charles (now that would be sucking up!)

Actually I thought it was Adam who over-did the respectful bit. But I guess we would all be the same in the event.

Met someone the other week who is walking all of our little offshore islands or, as I said to him, 'so you're walking the weather forcast then'. Not sure about the respect bit; more a case of fear of beheading perhaps ....

No, j08 respect can be shown by having a shave before appearing on Countryfile with HRH, it can be shown in many ways, but that simpering smile while obsequious, is not necessarily respectful.

Agree about Shetland, gm. I thought Jimmy Perez should be dark haired and yes, Sandy should be ginger and not quite so wimpish-looking. But the setting is perfect. The Northern Isles have been on my 'must do' list for many years and it's about time I did 'do'. Haven't watched Country-file yet- it's recorded. I have to admit I was watching the final of Dancing on Ice.

What is that expression people put on their faces when they are near royalty? Simpering doesn't quite catch it, but "sucky uppy" is pretty good! The royals must think that all us "common people" walk around with an ingratiating smile - how awful. HRH seemed quite normal, I think he is genuinely a countryman at heart and I think Camilla would have been good value too.
Shetland didn't quite live up to the book(s) - too condensed I think, trying to do it just 2 episodes. Not how I envisaged Jimmy Perez, or indeed Sandy (who I always thought had red hair) but good accents and great brooding scenery. I would love to visit Orkney and Shetland - rugged and truly wild I think.

It was the end of a perfect day with those I love. Curled up on the sofa with my dogs in front of a blazing log fire, a large , Countryfile, Call The Midwife [kleenex emoticon] and now Shetland which looks promising.
