So glad this is back tonight. I love Michael Kitchen's laid back style of acting and the plots are always great so it will be feet up and wine in celebration. smile

I agree - I love this programme. Have already opened the bottle of wine grin

Me too Merlot ,it's lovely to have it back. I think I read that the author is not writing any more of them , so we must enjoy it while we can.

Mishap Sun 24-Mar-13 19:29:49

Can't wait - we have the original series on DVD and our treat to ourselves is to curl up in front of the fire and watch them - even though we know "whodunnit."

merlot

I can't wait either. I am interested to see how they pick up the story, didn't he retire in the last series?

He is not a good looking man but I find he has a sort of sexy appeal about him. confused am I alone.

My husband is a big fan of Foyle's War, I have only got into it of late. These three are now life after the war so should be interesting, I like period feel to it and there aren't that many good dramas around at the moment, except of course Broadchurch tomorrow.

I've always liked Michael Kitchen's voice - ever since I heard him, long ago, in a radio production of Death and the Maiden by Ariel Dorfman.

Nelliemoser Sun 24-Mar-13 20:25:39

Its brilliant! I am watching it now.

Marelli Sun 24-Mar-13 20:34:14

I love it! This series looks like being really interesting, having a different storyline.

Marelli Sun 24-Mar-13 21:21:17

Honeysuckle Weekes looks quite qaunt, don't you think? I know she's a bit older now, but her face shape seems to have changed.

Marelli Sun 24-Mar-13 21:22:22

I meant 'gaunt' not 'qaunt'!

Mishap Sun 24-Mar-13 21:24:02

I'm watching it now - losing the plot already!!!

Marelli Sun 24-Mar-13 21:29:20

I've lost the plot, but that's because I'm on here as well!

Once over the shock of seeing a Routemaster bus in what was supposed to be 1946 (and all those buildings so miraculously clean years before the Clean Air Act) I found it as enjoyable as ever, although the identity of the mole was predictable and one of the MI5 spooks had to be gay.

And HW did explain why she looked so gaunt. I do hope the problem resolves itself naturally.

nanaej Sun 24-Mar-13 22:14:14

grumpa it was a no.19 going West Peckham..the no.19 never went near Peckham..east or west!! Also the building allegedly opposite the Old Vic does not exist! But I thoroughly enjoyed the programme!

Ella46 Sun 24-Mar-13 22:16:16

It was filmed in Dublin as far as I can remember from her interview on This Morning.

Nelliemoser Sun 24-Mar-13 22:16:51

I can play Freecell or knit and not lose a plot but trying to type on GN and keep up with a story defeats me. It must say something about which bits of my brain do what.

merlotgran Sun 24-Mar-13 22:20:34

And would the iron railings have been replaced so soon?

Sook Sun 24-Mar-13 22:55:40

DH is a big fan of Foyles War I can't bear it so had a long snooze instead zzzzz zzzzz

annodomini Sun 24-Mar-13 23:00:29

I became a convert to Foyles War when it was on afternoon repeats. It is so well acted and has interesting story lines. Glad Call the Midwife is finished so there's no clash.

Gally Sun 24-Mar-13 23:21:18

Marelli maybe Honeysuckle Weekes looks more gaunt as she's recently had a baby? hmm
I love Foyles War and sit through all the repeats, especially on a cold wintery afternoon all tucked up in a fleecy rug!
No need for that here today though wink

Could not believe they used a Routemaster bus 1945 we had RT and RTL and the 19 certainly never cane out of my garage at Peckham .

Nonu Mon 25-Mar-13 13:27:13

Sheer Bliss , I had a picture of Michael Kitchen , Honeysuckle [prettyName]
and the chap who played the detective of the back of my kitchen unit doors [well three of them actually] until we had the a re-fit .

smile

Hmm not sure. I loved the original series and often watch them again on DVD. This new one seemed a bit too strained, too dark, too Dublin not London, too many confusing men in hats, too much dramatic music and everyone trying too hard. I love Michael Kitchen's acting though.

Deedaa Tue 26-Mar-13 21:54:16

Michael Kitchen is one of those actors whose name in a cast list promises something worth watching. The first thing I ever saw him in was a play about the Brontes. He was very young with lots of red curls, and playing Branwell of course. He also did that Poliakoff play when he was stuck on a train with a strange old lady (Peggy Ashcroft?)
Nice to see Honeysuckle again. I thought she looked very thin and washed out, but I suppose they were all looking very worn down by years of wartime austerity.
