Do you think Tina has any real right to keep the baby she has produced as a surrogate mother? The baby has none of her genes. I don't see how she can bond with it.

j08 Thu 13-Jun-13 22:15:06

Oh yes!!! I like Roy.

Ana Thu 13-Jun-13 22:11:48

Roy's quite bright....

j08 Thu 13-Jun-13 22:03:39

Nope! I've had a think, petallus and I can't think of any! grin

petallus Thu 13-Jun-13 20:37:07

Are there any men in Corrie who are not on the thick side j08?

Maybe Ken, but .....?

j08 Thu 13-Jun-13 09:41:19

MrsSB - he does come across as a bit thick! grin

Perhaps he still thinks it's all cut and dried and hasn't given any more thought to it.

j08 Thu 13-Jun-13 09:39:35

in all cases

j08 Thu 13-Jun-13 09:38:55

It's true, of course, that pregnancy and giving birth, are huge things in a woman's life (although surprisingly quickly forgotten where things have been straightforward).

I did say that I am sure parents of adopted children love their babies, but I stand by my belief in the genes thing. We are animals and still have the inborn insticts of the animal world. Nature's way of making sure the young are protected.

I appreciate it doesn't work out like that in cases.

Nice to have drawn you out of lurker mode em.

em Thu 13-Jun-13 09:31:13

Coming out of 'lurking' mode to challenge the comment that people who adopt can come to love their babies but it can't be the same as when there is the pull of genes!
Piffle. Unlike jo8 I have experienced both situations and would point out that uninformed and patronising comments like that can be very hurtful.
Having met the birth mother of one of my daughter's, I understand how difficult it was for her. The process of pregnancy and birth is hardly a mere incidental!

MrsSB Thu 13-Jun-13 07:52:28

Ana, that's what I've been thinking too. For a fireman, who would presumably be used to investigations and having to recall detail, he's being incredibly dim in not remembering. Let's hope nasty Karl gets caught out soon.

Greatnan Thu 13-Jun-13 05:40:55

As I won't be watching for two weeks, I have used Digital Spy to tell me all the news but I won't spoil it for the rest of you.
I don't suppose soaps are any more ridiculous than the plots of most operas or Greek tragedies and I find them a darned sight easier to relate to! I can't watch Eastenders, though - at least Corrie and Emmerdale have their humorous characters.

gillybob Wed 12-Jun-13 22:51:00

Oh no annodomini you have shattered my illusion, I was sure it was a fly on the wall documentary. smile

I read the spoilers, I read the spoilers, I read the spoilers ............... grin

petallus Wed 12-Jun-13 21:19:23

I've watched Corrie since it began.

Particularly interesting at the moment. I would hate to have to decide who should have the baby. I can understand Tina's feelings but wonder how she can justify hanging on to it, although the Windass lot are being particularly obnoxious all of a sudden.

And yes, keep going Dev but watch your back when Karl is around.

I just hope they don't drag the story lines on for too long.

Even the Archers has perked up at the moment and I've started listening.
to that as well.

j08 Wed 12-Jun-13 20:38:26

I missed an episode or two at the time of the fire. But I know who the nasty slimey guilty party is though. grin

j08 Wed 12-Jun-13 20:35:18

I know parents who adopt do come to love their baby. But I can't help but think it can't be quite the same. I believe genes do exert a "pull".

Ana Wed 12-Jun-13 20:33:52

Yes - when will Paul remember he smelled paraffin on Karl that night...???

j08 Wed 12-Jun-13 20:32:46

Yes, I hope so too. Come on Dev!

Babs1952 Wed 12-Jun-13 20:27:17

I am a Corrie fan and I think the surrogacy line has done it's job as we are all talking about it smile

As for bonding some one I know gave birth recently to a baby which had neither her or her husbands genes and they love the baby as much as any parents could. They had problems conceiving so it was all done by donor.

Any way what about Karl? Will he get his comeuppance? I hope so!

Ana Wed 12-Jun-13 19:05:04

Yes. And me.

j08 Wed 12-Jun-13 19:03:14

I think the law probably says the baby belongs to the birth mother. But that seems wrong to me.

j08 Wed 12-Jun-13 19:02:05

Wonder what happens with real life surrogating.

Ana Wed 12-Jun-13 19:01:34

How does the law stand in that situation? confused

j08 Wed 12-Jun-13 19:00:48

Does the gene sharing alone cause bonding? I think she should have handed the baby over to Izzy and Gary at the moment of birth.

Marelli Wed 12-Jun-13 18:55:44

I was thinking along the same lines, j08. She would perhaps bond with it because she's carried it for the 9 months, and it would seem to be her own, though. Would the fact that she was only the host mother make her feelings any different? hmm

j08 Wed 12-Jun-13 18:39:33

I was waiting for something like that! grin

j08 Wed 12-Jun-13 18:38:57

Shut up Grannylin! grin wink
