What did I say the other day, about women running the world for the next ten years, its happening, slowly but its there.

I wouldn't quite go that far berdie - suggest you take a look at the composition of pretty much any government, or parliament, anywhere in the world. Most will be predominantly male. Some will be exclusively male. Let us know if you find any where women are in the majority of senior posts, or of representatives.
Same goes for the boards of large companies.
On a brighter note, the female scientist from Leicester was very clear I thought on that very Today programme, re her groundbreaking brain research.

Sorry not just the next ten years, keep hammering at that glass ceiling you'll get through, because most of the women I talk to have better ideas on the NHS, education, wars etc.

Plan A for better female representation in the media.
* Today programme 3 men and 3 women when J.Humphrys retires.
* Any Questions and Question Time - equal numbers of men and women, ditto University Challenge, Have I Got News for You, Q I, Only Connect and Mastermind. Yes I know its a quota but it would be fair.
* More older women on news and current affairs programmes and I don't mean 40 year olds ! How about 60 year olds who are there for their expertise rather than their looks.

Agree absolutely re the tedious boys club on those comedy/quiz formats.
gardener's question time got more equal a couple of years back.
The beeb are so keen to get "balance" of opinion (to the extent where every time they talk about something like smoking and health they feel obliged to drag out (pun!) the tired old pro-smokers group.

I listened to the Today programme whilst driving to work - it was great. At last Beeb - it's been a long time arriving hasn't it.

Guess what ? I saw Question Time last night ( it is on at the moment on BBC 2 ). 3 women, 2 men ( 1 gay ) ! Was Tony Hall reading gransnet ?
As you have said , it's a shame that it seems so novel but hopefully it will become the norm. can you imagine an all female Mock the Week or Buzzcocks - no nor can I !

Equal coverage of men's and women's sport on TV.

Now we really are in la la land. There's 'ladies' tennis once a year at Wimbledon, what more do you want ?

In the S hemisphere they take their netball very seriously. Men watch women's netball on TV. Pretty rough game.
I just wish they would stop referring to females in sport as girls or ladies. That would be a start.

I have just seen the gay couple in the Nat West ad - good for them. I bet the creatives doing the ad agonised about it though.
Do you know the older I get the more I notice the injustices of the status quo. I can't understand it when women say 'I am not a feminist but....'
I don't want females to take over the world but if we had real representation in the media it would soon become normal.

So now I think 'long live the old bat tendency' - fight sexism, racism and ageism. Go Grans Go !

Yes it is done with a very light touch isn't it. the ad.
It is frustrating to see after all this time that feminism has made relatively little progress in some areas.
