christmas adverts

Don't like that poor old man sitting on the moon, very depressing, a present is of no use on your own. Like the Alice in Wonderland one and the boy getting the shopping fir the old man, wish he had spoken to him though.

Someone should tell Sprout Boy that he`s only made welcome at the last house because they want to eat him! I love the one where the young man leaves all the shopping outside the old lady`s front door, Aaaaah!!

Morethan that one is for Tesco . I dislike it too, as it seems to mock a 'special needs' teenager.

Totally confused now (as per usual). I was trying to place all the adverts discussed and wondering how I'd managed to miss them all, when I (eventually) realised that someone has resurrected a thread from 2 years ago....

Am I the only one who is already sick of the BBCs Sprout Boy? Someone obviously thought it was a good idea. I wonder if they like sprouts?

I like the BBC ad, advertising themselves. The one with the sprout!

No the one with the wonderful Ruth Jones. She's the mother with the rather dippy son. He attempts to chat up some female. It just makes me cringe. I think it's for the co-op but actually now you mention it I'm not sure. Shows how inaffective advertising can be really.

I have to get this off my chest....I HATE THE CO-OP ad. It makes me want to put my foot through the television. ...phew that feels better.

Perhaps shysal.....which is a shame as many young people are happy to embrace all things traditional about Christmas....by that I do not necessarily mean the 'olde worlde' Dickensian vision ....... but they are happy to 'do' family and a bit of generosity and tolerance.
The TK Max one manages to be both modern and also about giving and sharing, even with people you are not that keen on......(am no great fan of TK Max) but its decent advert with a sweet message.

I saw it for the first time last night shysal I thought it was brilliant. Very clever and very funny.

I agree, Hilda. I wondered whether they were trying to appeal to a younger generation.

The one I really wince at is the House of Fraser one...Its very brash and dark in tone. Almost anti Christmas - all about self obsessed consumerism, leaves quite a nasty impression.

Love the Aldi ad., very witty play on the miserable John Lewis one.

Anyone seen the new Aldi advert featuring the JL man in the moon? It made me laugh, good on 'em! And he won't be alone for Christmas!

I've just found out that the John Lewis advert supports Age UK charity and a percentage of all takings in the 6 weeks run up to Christmas will go to Age UK, which I think is great, as I do voluntary work for them and they are a great organisation. Must say though, it wasn't very obvious from watching the ad. Did anyone else pick this up?

Hespian who wouldn't be tearful when an advert puts its finger on just what is happening to you. What a marvellous Christmas you have ahead of you.

We are on holiday at the moment so avoiding all the pre Christmas hype. However my daughter sent me a link to the Sainsbury's one and I have to admit it made me cry. It may be because DD, DS, d in l and DGD ( who I haven't met yet) are all coming from Australia for Christmas!!! Yippee! Feeling so emotional.

I think I block out a lot of these adverts. I might remember the content but not always which company has sponsored it. Which rather defeats the advertisers object.
Not a Christmas one I know but my favourite Ads are the Specsavers ones which are genuinely funny.

In the welter of frantic selling activity, the Hamlet ad would be a haven of tranquillity.

I watched the last episode of Poirot last night - my views on that can be seen on another thread, but it meant that I was subjected to umpteen ad breaks and wall to wall Christmas ads. All of them were obviously meant to be big production numbers

The effects were exactly the opposite to what they intended. I really couldn't tell one from the other. They all start with what I call ta da music and strong tune played or sung and then in a confusion of Christmas colour and decorations and milling people different products whizzed through the advert. The overall impression was of cacophony and colour in which indistinguishable products from unidentifiable retailers were run by very quickly. It really would have taken intense concentration to actually register who was doing the advertising and what they were advertising - and that is not something you do in ad breaks.

A retailer making a non-Christmas advert, which ran slowly and calmly and concentrated on one or two products in each ad would really catch peoples attention between the confusion of all the others and their sales would soar.

I don't know how much the JL advert cost, but I am sure that the powers that be have calculated that it is worthwhile. All partners (including Waitrose) share the company's profits.

G3 My chorister grandson auditioned for the the snowman Christmas ad when it was to be recorded several years ago, but was just beaten by a fellow-choirboy who looked just like the boy in the cartoon - odd since the singer is not seen at all, but there you go.

I seem to remember that the pay for it was £60, but my memory may be playing tricks. I hope the singer is also getting royalties whenever it is shown, but the chances are that the £60 was a one-off.

"Glam" I have seen that also . Did hear that it was Coca-Cola who started the "RED COAT" for him .

Apparently the Coca-Cola lorry is visiting 52 of the nations hotspots [supposed to be the happiest ]
I love the Cola adverts , just wish they were longer , so I watch them on Youtube sometimes.
The polar bear film is sweet !
