1950s children's TV

Pebble Mill had Bob Langly and Marion Foster presenting when I watched it. Daughter would snuggle up on the sofa with me and have a little nap. I'd have a nice cup of tea and it was lovely grown up telly after watching Rainbow just before on ITV.

We loved Daktari in my family penguin paperback but I wasn't allowed to watch Robin Hood or Long John Silver because they were rubbish and not the proper stories.
I was also saved by Pebble Mill at One dustyangel I used to feed the baby while watching it. I remember them warning us about the Argentinian ambitions in the Falklands long before the war.

I watched House Party sometimes, seem to remember Cherry Driscoll, an ex model I think? I remember Pebble Mill better (programme came from Birmingham?)with a much younger Alan Titchmarsh. Probably saved my sanity when, just moved with a one year old , I walked miles looking for a toddler and baby group for some one to talk to.

It must have been shown on Southern Networks cause I don't remember it. What I did love years back [probably just a midlands thing] was Pebble Mill at One. I'd sometimes impress people with my knowledge of certain events when I went to political meetings [was always trying to save the world back then] and, when they asked how I knew that I'd say 'Pebble Mill at One' .

Oh yes I loved House Party Tegan, I think I watched it on school holidays. There was a nice but a little bit bossy lady called Sylvia, I think. She was head girl.
When I older my father never used to let us children watch Daktari, he thought it was 'rubbish.' It was a very popular early evening programme.

Thanks for the link JoyBloggs very interesting, but not the person I was thinking of for dress-making back in the 50/60's, and incidentally, my close friend recently told me that one of her boys always thought that I was Patricia Driscoll, because evidently I used to look like her. I don't think I did, but her son was convinced it was me, quite flattering! (Perhaps I was her twin sister?)

absent I am distraught to hear that Patricia Driscoll could possibly have played a child murderer! She had such a kind, smiley face with twinkly eyes - I can picture it so clearly. I can only think she must have an identical twin sister...

I think the woman who "fronted" Picture Book – Monday's Watch with Mother – was called Patricia Driscoll. I quite liked her until she played a child murderer with a bag of poisoned sweeties in an episode of Fabian of the Yard.

Tegan I really can't remember her name, it might well be Ann Ladbury, I think I will have a look at google and see what I can find, anno yes I remember Bengo the boxer puppy, but not so much what he got up to. Our favourites were always The Magic Roundabout and Trumpton.

Do you remember Bengo the boxer puppy? We had much loved boxer so we loved Bengo too and had a Pelham puppet of him - wonder what happened to that! I think we had a Muffin puppet too.

Ann Ladbury?

I've got a book about dressmaking which I nearly threw out recently [which, of course I didn't do cause I can't throw anything out] and I reckon it's by the lady you're thinking of. Just need to find the book.

Just caugt up with this again, and yes it was Eileen Fowler who did the exercise, and she was still around a few years ago, still exercising! Also of course Barry Bucknell did the work-work, wish I could remember the name of the lady who did the dress-making, I can see her clearly in my mind, but the name eludes me. I can't believe it is the 50th Anniversay of Dr. Who tonight, I will not be watching, and although it was on - the other half loved it, I have never really watched it. I don't think I understood it then, and certainly don't understand it now.

Well, I'm relieved about Captain Pugwash! I wasn't that young when I used to watch it and I'm pretty sure I'd have picked up on one or two of those odd names!

I have just returned from my local annual Boys Brigade Christmas Fair and picked up a DVD copy of The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe for the princely sum of £1. Talk about a coincidence after reading this thread last night!

feetlebaum was spot on about Captain Pugwash. The mate was called Master Mate (not Master Bates), the cabin was called Tom, not Roger, and there were no members of the crew called Seaman anything.

Me too Ana - I just remember coming home from school and being terrified. Great stuff. I doubt it would be allowed now

I've just read this thread and was thinking of asking if anyone remembered 'The Red Grass' and there were mentions. Wow. It was the one programme I remember as being so scary - I think it was a serial story of some evil creeping grass. We didn't have a telly till I was around 10 or so - it must have been early 60s I think. Good to know others found it so memorable.

Wasn't the Badger Club on one of the nature programmes anno ? I remember having on of the badges, but can't remember the programme.
