Anyone watching The Bridge?

I love nearly all the subtitled detective ones, Swedish, Italian whatever.

Saturday night telly is so dire I look forward to 9pm BBC4. I loved the last series of The Bridge and this one is just as exciting. DH has got used to the subtitles now - his eyesight's not brilliant so he wasn't keen at first.

Shame Martin's lovely house isn't in this one sad

I never miss BBC4 on Saturday night and the Bridge is as good as ever. The documentary or nature programme on before 9 is also on my viewing list. I confess I dozed off during last nights Bridge but I will catch up on the iplayer.

janerowena Sun 12-Jan-14 17:26:16

Me too - but then I love languages. The Bridge is always very good. I liked Spiral, too. Or Cogs as it should probably be translated to. They have a slight difference to them that was lacking in the British version of Wallander, although it was good it wasn't as good as the Swedish versions.

So - are you thinking that the poor lady's boring husband is maybe not as boring as he appears?

Mamie Sun 12-Jan-14 17:26:24

It is brilliant isn't it? I wasn't sure about the first two episodes, but three and four were excellent. Playing "spot the Swedish actor", who is Saga's boss in the wooly pully? I thought it was the father from The Killing 1, but can't find it on IMDB.

Tegan Sun 12-Jan-14 17:27:22

I loved the bit where the young boy gave Saga a hug. I find her character so adorable and the chemistry with Martin is wonderful. The subtitles for this series are very good. I actually prefer it to The Killing [and I never thought I'd find anything better than that].

Marelli Sun 12-Jan-14 17:33:34

Like it! What is Saga doing, though, when she rubs the inside of her upper lip/gum (where she's scarred)?

Tegan Sun 12-Jan-14 17:40:53

Crikey; I'd forgotten about that bit. I did read that we'll find out more about her past life in this series. I've just been thinking about it [doing some post Christmas tidying up today and pondering about things while I'm doing it]; neither she nor Martin are capable of having long term relationships with people, but they're both learning from each other. Time to dig out the Guardian blog I think. As for the plot; I never even attempt to work out what's going on in these programmes any more.

Soupy Sun 12-Jan-14 18:16:32

Didn't see the first series but DH and I are finding this one unmissable.

Must say though that Saga reminds me of someone I know!

We've watched both Saturdays so far but am also recording it in case we don't stay awake.

Tegan Sun 12-Jan-14 18:43:00

I think it's repeated later in the week. Check out the Guardian blog; it's so funny and really adds to the programme.

Yes I enjoy it, it's something to look forward to on a Saturday night there isn't anything else worth watching. My husband watches it on the tv, but I watch BBC 4 live through my lap top with ear phones on, I find the sub titles easier to read up close. I can simultaneously view the tv over the top of my computer, it's always a scene ahead so I know what is coming next!

broomsticks Mon 13-Jan-14 17:32:52

We are watching it on i-player tonight. Looking forward to it!

I like it as I also like subtitles [dunno why!] Having watched The Tunnel though, think I prefer that really [Anglo/French version of The Bridge.]

Tegan Tue 14-Jan-14 18:54:31

I understand that The Tunnel was a good remake [didn't get to see it]. I half saw an American remake of Let the Right One In, and what I saw was dire [although their remake of Dragon Tattoo was good]. Scandi dramas usually can't be improved on I find.

janerowena Tue 14-Jan-14 19:14:36

Marelli she is taking snus, a truly revolting scandinavian habit. Rather than smoke, many scandinavians buy little pouches of tobacco which they then poke under their top lip and sort of keep it there. Instead of chewing gum all over the pavements there are little wads of snus.

Marelli Tue 14-Jan-14 19:30:49

janerowena, thank you! I've just googled it and it really does look horrible! A cross between snuff and chewing tobacco, by the look of it.

Flowerofthewest Tue 14-Jan-14 19:36:25

Love Saga's character, thanks for clearing up the snus thingy. Sounds horrible.

Tegan Tue 14-Jan-14 20:31:13

Sarah in The Killing was always chewing gum, wasn't she?

Granart Wed 15-Jan-14 13:50:50

I love bridges. I really love the Oresund bridge. And The Bridge is to my mind the best series I have ever seen on tv. Thank goodness it is back.

MaggieP Thu 16-Jan-14 11:16:18

Oh yes, we were delighted when it returned. Saga and Martin are so good together! they make us laugh.
We love the BBC4 foreign programmes on Saturday nights.

Mamie Sun 26-Jan-14 05:51:06

This series just gets better and better I think. Surely it is the best thing on TV at the moment? I love the way the dramatic tensions of the plot are interspersed with the exchanges between Martin and Saga.

Grannyknot Sun 26-Jan-14 08:46:32

Hi Mamie, I agree. The relationship between Martin and Saga provides light relief. The most unlikable character (discounting the murderous ones) is the woman who is having an affair with her BIL. I can't stand her and she has me talking to the TV as in "Oh go away you revolting woman" smile

Mamie Sun 26-Jan-14 09:38:14

Have you found this? www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/series/the-bridge-episode-by-episode
The blog is good, but the comments underneath are brilliant.

petallus Sun 26-Jan-14 11:38:03

Brilliant, the best thing on tv at the moment.

Except I do find Saga to be occasionally just a bit too cute with her unusual attitudes and comments (Asperger's is it?). Reminds me a bit of Spock from Star Trek.

Mishap Sun 26-Jan-14 11:40:10

Well - we've had masturbation (male and female), male homosexual activity, female homosexual activity....whatever next? - No, second thoughts, please don't answer that!!
