THE ONE SHOW

I hadn't watched The One Show for ages then it came on after the news and made me really cross. I remembered then why I had avoided it for so long. The little feature stories can be really interesting but back in the studio the presenters behave like six-year olds. While I was shouting at the television, my DS said he thought it was intended as 'family viewing' so 'child friendly'. My reaction was that children shouldn't be condescended to anymore than adults but on reflection, I think he may be right. Anyone remember Pebble Mill at One? That was a similar programme in format but I don't remember any childishness. Or Tonight with Cliff Michelmore?

Oh! The one night I missed it cos I was doing the ironing with the radio on! Can you remember his name PRINTMISS?

OH, and of course it was the other chap, what's 'is name.

I liked Cliff Michelmore. He was a good bloke. And his wife. She did Family favourites or something.

When I last watched it (admittedly some time ago), it seemed to me that this programme didn't know what it wanted to be - a serious news programme or a light hearted filler. It would start to cover a serious subject and then just when I was getting into it, would change to something completely different, so I gave up on it.

I watch The One Show occasionally. The most amusing thing that happens on it is when American celebrities or film actors are guests, because almost without fail, at some point they mutter "What the hell is this show?" for the very reasons that sunseeker mentions.

I quite like watching the American 'Stars' on the show, when they realise the whole show is not devoted to them,,,, Their faces when they are relegeted to a short chat while other stuff goes on around them are a picture.
It is on at 20.00pm here just when i switch on the telly and have my supper so a bit of light entertainment, before I settle down for the evening.
Although they do seem to have produced some results lately.

jings Cliff Mitchelmore's wife was Jean Metcalf and you where right I think she did All Time Family Favourites my nanna had it on every Sunday lunchtime think between 12-2pm ( maybe wrong)
I can't be doing with The One Show to messy for me and Chris Evans when he presents it drives me potty it's bad enough listening to him when he is on the radio.

They "met" when they were both presenting Forces Favourites before it was to changed to Two-way Family Favourites. She was in London, UK, he was in Germany so they chatted between records. Aaaahh!

I can't stand The One Show. It's just Blue Peter for immature adults. Actually I think that's an insult to Blue Peter.

Nationwide....Now, that was a good current affairs programme.

I can't remember the hairdressers name - and I do agree that Chris Evans goes overboard a bit, but never-the-less, the programme is (in my opinion) harmless, and there are one or two good bits, early evening is a time for winding down, so it is just one of those programmes that happens to be on with the occasional interesting piece. I think Cliff Michelmore and Jean Metcalfe originally did the Forces Favourites, (B.F.O.) when armed forces were still stationed in Germany, (I don't think they went any farther than that) I remember my Mum laughing at me when I said I thought they were in love - I was proved right. It was indeed during 12 - 2 on a Sunday, and very popular. I also remember a Christmas t.v. programme - black and white(!) where they were in a pantomime that was broadcast live. That was before the days of constant films and re-runs over the seasonal period.

The only time I've recently enjoyed the One Show was when one of the two regular presenters asked Paul O'Grady his opinion on the "Benefits Street" furore, and he gave them a straight answer. I think his unequivocal response (which included a not very complimentary opinion re George Osborne) took them completely by surprise. It was amusing to see the fixed smiles on their faces.

Yes he does jingle but I can't share your like of him, sorry.
