The Book Thief

I saw it last week Iam, and I agree it was wonderful. I haven't read the book so I had nothing to compare it with and had no expectations. I didn't really like the death narrator bit and thought it would have worked just as well without it. I loved the actress who played Liesel - what a face! She was just mesmerising.

I enjoyed it but I wouldn't say I was over enthusiastic about it. Good to see a war story from the other side but I found quite a lot of it a bit far fetched; just a story put on film but I wouldn't discourage anyone from going to see it. The girl was lovely but not quite sure she aged as she should have done over the time period.

Wonderful film. I enjoyed the book and have to say the film did not disappoint. The little actress who played Liesel was very talented, I agree she was mesmerising.

I`ve just finished reading the book, not really sure if I enjoyed it or not, it`s a bit unusual for Death to be the narrator of a story. Don`t know if I fancy the film or not.

I saw the film last night (a few weeks behind up here) and thought it very good and like lam64 didn't need a hanky until the end. It is worth waiting for films to come here as it only costs £4 and every 10th film you see is free. Very comfy roomy seats too !
The book was given away by The telegraph a few weeks ago which I can now read. I prefer seeing the film before reading the book otherwise I fume at the bits they change or leave out.

I'm in the middle of the book right now, I was wondering how Death would be depicted. How do they do that, if at all?

Death speaks in the background of the film, janerowena. We don't see him.
Numberplease, I got on well with Death as the narrator, though I live some people who didn't.

I wouldn't want to see the film. I never enjoy films of books I have liked. I've passed it on to GD(11) with instructions not to see the film until she's read it.

We are even later here in France with films - but in our small local town we get an English language film most weeks - so have just seen The Book Thief tonight.
I thought it was beautifully filmed and the young actress was so good. Geoffrey Rush was very sympathetic in his portrayal of the father. I have not read the book and could not quite fathom why she was sent to live with new parents. This film made up for the one we saw last week - Le Weekend!

I enjoyed The Book Thief, DH and I went to an early morning viewing and had the cinema to ourselves. I bought the DVD of Le Weekend and was quite disappointed, I thought the storyline was poor.

Exactly Harrigran. I thought much of the plot of Le Weekend was implausible.
