Rev is back!!

Hear, hear, Dianlou. Probably best to go out on a high. On the other hand, the stories and characters were so good it would be a shame to loose them. Perhaps a mystery benefactor could set Rev up running a London-based drop-in/help centre with the same characters. After all, they are available and the theme would be topical.

I agree with MiceElf- the last 2 episodes were like a passion play, and very moving. Some of it was almost literal- Colin denying he knew Adam 3 times before the burglar alarm went off in the chicken shop, the bishop washing his hands, Adam meeting the stranger ( Christ?) after dragging a cross up a small green hillock.

It was a lovely ending. I'm not sure they should try to follow it.

And a remarkably high forehead. Let's hope he doesn't lose his hair too soon! OK - I apologise for being totally trivial!

He seems to have rather short legs...

I love this programme, very realistic and quite subtly funny. I think Tom is so gorgeous and would was well envious of Ellie (the woman he snogged). He looks like a wonderful kisser ....but perhaps I am deviating from the question somewhat.......

And I think that though Adam has lost his church, he's found himself.

Good writing, believable characters that you care about and it moved so seamlessly from comedy to near tragedy. You don't need to be a believer to wonder what life is like for a vicar in the modern world and the church has always had a problem with priests who actually practice Christianity. Does anyone remember the Peter Sellers film "Heavens Above" which was on similar lines?

It was an allegory wasn't it? Adam in his bed (tomb) who can't be found, the women who go to find him and wake him up, then the church (tomb) has to be opened. The singing of the Exultet was perfect. And the stories of the other characters both protecting and exposing themselves before God was very moving.

A lot of ends were tied up and our belief in Adam as a vicar was restored. The baby's christening put the seal on it. However, it seems there will be a sequel. I wonder where they will be and what kind of clergyman he will be.

I have just seen this last episode, what does anyone else think about it?
I come from the point of being a non believer who does have a degree of respect for the church.

I thought the whole series was very clever in its concept. There was a lot of humour but always with a serious edge and respect for the persons involved, despite some of the situations being totally OTT.

There was in the end a suggestion of hope. I was in moved by how the story ended.
To get that balance between the humour and the desperation of the situation was very good writing indeed.

Come on lets have some response from the religious and non believers on this.

It does raise points one wouldn't normally think about. Is £6,000,000 of real estate best used as a church for a handful of people or should religion be organised in a different way? (Answers in triplicate to the Archbishop of Canterbury)

I thought it was quite moving, though humping a big wooden cross around the city was a bit OTT.

Just watched recording of the latest episode. I have to grant them it is very clever - even as an agnostic I got it! The kiss, the denial 3 times, the hand washing. No doubt there will be a "resurrection" in the last episode.

well, the first episode was quite good, if not quite as good as the past series. It set the scene anyway.I was pleased that the elegant and sinister Robert was edged out of the taxi, and liked the bit of dialogue about the E -cigarette [oh your'e smoking your E's now Vicarage!']

Looking forward to this evening and the first of the new Rev series. Made the mistake of reading the article in the RT written by a cleric (forgotten his name but he's well known for resigning his post at St Paul's) in which he described coming across a woman squatting down and pulling a face in an alley in the middle of the day having been caught short...he wondered if he should offer her toilet paper! That put me off my cornflakes! Hopefully that won't be included in the TV programme!!!

We loved the first series, second series was a bit disappointing (that drawn out episode where he takes ecstasy was ridiculous). I do love Tom Hollander though, and of course Olivia Coleman, so will be watching tomorrow night.

I do love Rev. I tend to watch anything that Tom Hollander does and I think this gives a good idea of what it must be like to be a vicar in the 21st century. Mile Jupp's character is brilliant - you always seem to get someone like him whatever field you work in (It gives watching Balamory an extra edge too) And I do love the Arch Deacon who has raised damning with faint praise to an art form.
