Vera

Haven't enjoyed this at all, find Vera irritating now and this series for me has been disappointing.

SPOILER ALERT!

It was the son Steve Eleothan - the one with the beard who seemed to be the more rational of the two sons. He had a row with his Dad who was planning to sell their trawler and set up home with the immigrant girl who worked in the cafe. He had fallen in love with her. Steve says that the murder was an accident - that he punched his Dad who fell and bashed his head on the pavement. Steve then set about disposing of the body by taking it out to sea in a boat that belonged to his aunt (Tommy's sister-in-law).

There were several sub-plots (?red herrings! ) concerning the fish factory owner and his sister - it turned out that their Dad was the one who set fire to the factory because he wanted the insurance as they were in financial difficulties. He went into the burning building to make it look as though he had tried to put out the blaze, but he accidentally got burned to a crisp.

Another sub-plot involved smuggling cigarettes and people trafficking - a veritable smorgasbord of dirty dealings!

I went out last night and recorded Vera on ITV+ 1. I forgot, though, that it finished at 11, not 10, and now only have half the episode.

Can someone tell me who dun it and why please?

I'm sorry it's the last one, I don't like Grantchester.

By coincidence, I too had just finished reading the book. The televised version was disappointing and has only a passing resemblance to the original story. Not sure why it had to be rewritten for the screen and if I was Anne Cleeves I would not be best pleased at the result.
I love Vera though and won't read any more until the series is finished.

Well I haven't watched this week's episode of Vera yet, so in with a chance of understanding the plot

Just finished reading The Moth Catcher, so was looking forward to seeing it on screen. I spent most of the time trying to find some similarities to the original. Really disappointed.

To be replaced by Grantchester we assume, not so bad then

Luckeygirl thank you, I thought that I was at the stage where I could no longer follow anything from start to finish. I also had no idea why she committed suicide. They were dropping like flies tonight.

She was the hit and run driver.

I think I got most of tonight's episode - wonders will never cease! However I could not understand why the woman called Susan (daughter of the old guy who found the first body) committed suicide. I could not see how it related to the case.

Knowing the area very well I couldn't quite get my head around the pub at Langdon Beck being so close to a town with a block of flats !
Thoroughly enjoyed it though.

charley I agree, the tiger plot in Endeavour made me laugh out loud. Totally OTT and completely unrealistic.

Endeavour often has very convoluted storylines.

Our current favourite is Shetland but of course it has disappeared for a week so will be scratching our heads to remember what happened in the previous episode ...

I enjoyed last night's Vera and I agree, she was not nearly as frumpy as usual. The "tiger" plot in Endeavour was totally ridiculous.

I watched this for the first time last night - it was Ok but not a patch on Endeavour. I thought the plot was a bit thin obviously the end was very well acted I thought.

I enjoyed it too last night. Husband commented that her appearance was less frumpy (not the outfits which were as frumpy as ever) but a new haircut, earrings, a smidgen of make-up. Once he had drawn my attention to it, I agreed.

I agree number. I felt BB had improved on Vera's character - in previous series, I felt she was too bumbling and faux naive - last night she seemed much more plausible and the emotional scenes at the end particularly well done. I won't say more in case anyone is going to watch it later!

Well, Vera came back with a bang tonight, I thought it was a brilliant episode, and Brenda Blethyn is great. I just wish there were more episodes to each series.

I thought that it was a bit convoluted but I will watch next week's, it may improve.

I certainly began to feel that it was more 'Midsummer Murders' up North than the original series. My original impression of the programme was as a bit of home grown Nordic Noir....but she's gone a bit soft and fluffy.

I like Vera. I didn't particularly enjoy it last night though. I don't know if that's because my mum talked all the way through (but remained quiet during the adverts), or because it was slow.

The scenery is stunning.

I`m so annoyed with myself! I`m a bit of a technological numpty, so as I didn`t know how to set the dvd to come on just for Vera, I set it to run through whilst I was at the hospital, stupidly forgetting that it only records for 2 hrs 59 mins, so I`ve only got the first half, GRRRRR!!!
