Still Alice

Close to home here too.
A woman who gave so much to our local community, running Guides and the Duke of Edinburgh's Award for the young people, died just before Christmas in her early sixties, after being diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's about 6 years ago.

I can't watch anything about Alzheimers because it scares me so much. I loved The Theory of Everything even though I thought I'd struggle with the subject matter but I'd be scared to watch this one. I can't watch the film about Iris Murdoch either.

A very moving film, I thought. Alice was beautifully played by Julianne Moore, she definitely deserved the Oscar for her performance.

I can't watch this as my mum's name is Alice but it's a family name so one of the Dds is also called Alice! A bit too close to home!

I saw it yesterday as well and found it profoundly moving. Difficult issues and questions were posed and not answered, giving you much to go away and think about. I did have to wipe away a few tears and I don't cry easily at films . A well deserved Oscar for her

Went to see this film last night. Very good performance by Julianne Moore who plays the part of Alice, a Columbia University professor, aged 50, at the beginning of the film is diagnosed with the onset of early Alzheimers. As the story progresses she gradually loses more of her faculties, starting with not being able to remember words, or where she is when she is out running. Sadly her descent into this illness is rapid and at the end she can barely form words. As well as the loss of her much loved career, the film also deals with her husband and grown up children and how their mother's regression affects them. The elder daughter sadly finds out that the Alzheimers her mother has is passed through the maternal line and she will also get it. Not a happy subject, very moving, I think Julianne Moore deserved her Best Actress Oscar this year.
