Chris Packman and friends

No, I didn't see it and have no idea what you're going on about.

Please at least tell us what the title of the programme was, what channel and when it was on...

Personally I don't like Chris Packham..........

Oh - the programme was on 11/06 on BBC4 and called Chris Packman's Natural Selection. I am a big fan of George Mombiot, always read his column, and have always loved Deller's stuff. I also admire Packman's fight for various wildlife causes like the mass shooting of migratory birds.

I'm afraid I'm another who can't watch Chris Packham.

As soon as his name is mentioned I'm off.......he's put me off for good from watching a number of previously enjoyed programmes like Springwatch.

Did you know Chris Packham is the brother of Jenny Packham, the dress designer, well known for her wedding dresses and a bit of a favourite with the Duchess of Cambridge?

I watched it, and recorded it to watch again. I thought it was excellent.

dj thought what Mombiot said about how things don't get discussed was spot on. Loved the "Wolves change rivers" - programmes like that give me goose bumps and a feeling of hope that the world isn't entirely mad.

Also loved Deller's "Hen Harrier" - I can remember that incident and feeling contempt at the time that no-one had the courage to admit culpability.

They are actually talking about introducing wolves to the Kielder Forest area. Watching the Attenborough clip on wolves bringing down a bison does make me wonder if we need them here. Okay in the wilds of Canada, but not sure about Kielder.

The day before that programme, I think it was on Springwatch about five male hen harriers being taken from their nests, which made them non-viable.
That means no young hen harriers in that area this year. I do hope they catch whoever took them.

Chris Packham's incessant yacking drives me mad! he ruins nature programmes for me.

Chris Packham certainly seems to engender a Marmite reaction!

Sad when talk about nature becomes more about the personalities presenting information than about the info itself. Maybe the BBC and other programme makers need to concentrate more on narration and less on narrators.

True, but the cult of the personality is here to stay. David Attenborough and Johnnie Morris started something!

I would like Chris Packham more if he didn't wear a permenantly supercillious expression. He might be a really nice bloke but comes across as totally up himself.

agreed merlot and my main problem is that he talks up all the air space and talks across others- I think he is quite dismissive at times of other experts too.

We went to one of his talks a few years ago and found him absolutely charming; he's so enthusiastic about what he does and has been obsessed with nature right from early childhood. I didn't realise till a couple of days ago that they try to incorporate the names of songs into Springwatch..he says it's a way of getting younger people who might not watch the programme interested. He was interviewed on R6 and was great fun.

Did anybody else watch the programme that whitewave was talking about?
It was really about anger at what humans have done to the world.
That is where Packham's enthusiasm comes across, along with that of Monbiot and Deller.
He told them at the end to stay angry. I agree.

Agreed, whitewave. I'd have problems if I only watched programmes by people I liked. Very little politics to watch.

I guess (and I know that I'm not the only one) I find it difficult to listen to the message if the presenter's method is off-putting.
