Yes LuckyGirl I read Jane Hawking's book shortly after seeing the film too! What a life she had in the early days. Much worse than portrayed in the film. No benefits. No support from NHS! I know it is her side of the story, but SH did appear to be totally focused on himself and his career. It bears out the old saying, 'Behind every great man is a woman'!! And the way she was treated by her MIL.....!

I've googled his teeth too, but no answer really. Just seems odd that he wouldn't have had them fixed.

Crikey; I've just Googled Stephen Hawkings teeth, and come up with all sorts of conspiracy theories [but still with no explanation about his teeth...]

I we t to see the film because OH wanted to but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Eddie Redmayne was superb

Whose? Redmayne's or Hawking's.

At the risk of seeming rather shallow, does anyone know of a reason why his teeth are so awful? Would there be a medical reason maybe?

Great film and I wonder how well he would have got on without Jane backing him so superbly and with such strength, physical and emotional.

I agree. I loved it.

I thought the acting was superb.

Shortly after, I read Jane's book about their life together; and it was clear that SH was imperious and demanding, as was his family, refusing to allow outside helpers and insisting that Jane do everything. Her description of his behaviour makes me think that he did succumb to Elaine's flattery as he has a big ego!

Did Hawking perhaps push Jane away so that she could have a life with Jonathan or did he really fall for the flattery of Elaine? Was he being unselfish or entirely self centred, I wonder.
Having read more about their further lives, I feel very very sad and being a true story, I can't console myself that "it's only acting"

I watched it a couple of weeks ago and it made me look at Stephen Hawking in a totally different light. His sense of humour, and the way his wife looked after him, wonderful stuff. Eddie Redmayne was incredibly good.

As are blah, blah, skills , changed my mind halfway through the sentence.
