Shardlake fans

This morning they have left York and traveled to Holme on Spalding Moor, which is close to where DH was brought up. The description of the church on the hill was very accurate. All the local children used to take their sledges up there in the snow as everywhere else is very flat. I believe a lot of the story is based on fact and the royal progress did stop there.

Hmm. My days of hopping on horses never actually started. But if Matthew was in the saddle, waiting for me, with a welcoming hand extended.... Sigh!

i fear my days of hopping up are long gone when it comes to horses, perhaps I could clamber up very slowly.

There was a children's author (E.Nesbit perhaps?) who used to say she couldn't stand characters speaking "forsoothly" and I think Sansom avoids that one. I suppose even today a hunchback in that sort of situation would be pretty buttoned up (Think what he'd have to put up with on Twitter!)

I agree, Jack is a very believable character.I think Sansom sets the right tone in those historical novels, just enough facts, doesn't overdo the speech patterns etc.I don't know what it is about Shardlake,too buttoned up?

I think he strikes a pretty good balance between writing from a 21st century point of view and creating a 16th century character roses Although I have to admit that my favourite is the sexy Jack Barak

Deedaa, I Love Sansom's other books, particularly Dominion and Winter In Madrid, but not over fond of Shardlake novels.I find all the characters in them believable except that of Matthew himself... Which is odd, but I just don't feel he is real somehow.

I liked the ending of Lamentation, where it in effect promises more to come in the Shardlake series. Here's hoping.

Too young

It's actually a dramatization and the voice of Matthew sounds all wrong to me.

I think Lamentation takes a while to get into but I got totally involved in it and there's quite a twist at the end. C.J.Sansom is such a good writer!

Have read about four of the books featuring Shardlake.I have Lamentation on my Kindle, and keep reading a few pages, and then leaving it, will never read it all at this rate. just can't get into it.I may like it on the radio though.

I do love Matthew. Totally in love with him.

I'm just finishing off Lamentation. I have been thinking of reading them all again from the start. Wonder if hearing it on the radio would spoil it.
