A Walk in the Woods

I'd read a couple of reviews but thought they might be exaggerating its awfulness but I trust your judgment Tegan and won't be going to see it (not that we go very often anyway).

Neither will I, however I have been recommended to 'Everest'. DS is seeing it tonight and will tell me tomorrow what I would think if it on a scale of 1 to 10 as we like the same things.

When I read the book years ago I didn't think it was as good as some of his others, which I loved.
Perhaps I'll give it a miss.

Oh dear Ii was quite looking forward to this especially as there doesn't seem to be much on at the flicks at the moment.

Yes rose I also did not enjoy it as well as his others. In fact I am reading his book about 1927 at the moment and would not recommend it unless you enjoy baseball! So am struggling to finish it.

Oh I did enjoy the book; I often read his books on holiday when I was doing something similar at the time [Neither Here nor There when we were travelling round Europe and AWITW's when we walked the Samaria Gorge]. He was meant to be 44 when he actually did the walk; I know he tends to describe himself as old, fat and unfit in most of his books but to be portrayed by someone in their [probably] 70's is taking it a bit too far. Teetime; please still see the film...it may have just been me...quite a few people laughed out loud several times and no one got up and left as soon as the film ended [usually the sign of a rubbish film] except us. I guess it was loosely 'based' on the book and not a true reflection of it [although he did, on a couple of occasions launch into the interesting facts that Bryson scatters throughout his books with regularity].I too am a bit 'Brysoned out' these days but when I did first start reading them I loved them.

There is a sequel to Notes from a Small Island out in October - The Road to Little Dribbling. I will look out for reviews.
