Just watched episodes 1-3 on catch-up. It's really good (apart from Trevor Eve channelling Alan Sugar). I do like Sanjeev Bhaskar.

Anyone else watching it?

Lona Sat 24-Oct-15 22:30:37

Yes, I am! It's very good in my opinion, and I can actually hear and understand what everyone is saying!
I think Trevor Eve is over egging it a bit too.

tanith Sat 24-Oct-15 22:33:53

We've been watching and agree its very watchable and yep OTT from Trevor Eve.

We`ve been watching, nice to see Tom Courtney again, but his character looks really evil. There are quite a few big names from past years in this drama.

Grannyknot Sun 25-Oct-15 08:42:26

number the Tom Courtenay character is chilling, isn't he just. Shows what good acting can do.

I watched ep1 and thought it was good but haven't caught up with the rest and was beginning to think I might not bother. You've tempted me, I may watch on the iPad while OH watches all the F1 stuff today... there are some very good faces in it which made me think it would be worth the time.

Grannyknot Sun 25-Oct-15 09:15:18

Mollie it is worth it, it is building up nicely.

Indinana Sun 25-Oct-15 09:23:09

I watched episode 1 while DH was in another room watching the footie (no surprise there). I knew he'd love it, so he watched it on catch up and we've been hooked ever since. Is Nicola Walker the new Sarah Lancashire? She seems to be popping up everywhere lately - and no wonder, she is such a good actor.

Greyduster Sun 25-Oct-15 16:32:37

We have been watching it and it is very good. It's taken a while to get into its stride, but an excellent cast. Pity it clashes with Last Kingdom, which has to go on tape.

That's it finished now, but can anyone tell me why the one son acted as he did towards his mother when she was in the care home, and just before she was admitted there? I must've missed something down the line. confused

seacliff Thu 12-Nov-15 22:06:03

I'm not sure about that either - he seemd very threatening towards her.

Indinana Thu 12-Nov-15 22:12:13

We were just talking about that too, and thought we must have missed something. Hopefully someone will come on here and enlighten us.
I thought it was an unsatisfactory ending. Such a good serial, with some wonderful acting and a top quality cast, but I felt it was let down by the conclusion. sad

Bennan Thu 12-Nov-15 22:24:57

I felt let down too! The Tom Courtney character was really evil and I think he was the guilty one. The son seemed to take after the father - a chip off the old block. It was extremely compelling and very well acted but I agree that Trevor Eve was a bit too brooding and nasty - less would have been better.

Marelli Thu 12-Nov-15 22:25:58

I started to wonder if I'd missed an episode. Now I can't work out if the bruises that the mother had (a couple of episodes ago) were caused by her husband (Tom Courtney) or that son.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 12-Nov-15 22:29:10

Oh God. I'm still trying to work River out. Just watched three episodes back to back. I don't think I've even started on this one. There is suddenly so much drama to watch!

Welshwife Thu 12-Nov-15 22:38:38

Tom Courney's wife always looked a victim and of course it was her who started saying she knew what he - the husband - did. At times I found it confusing finding Nicola Walker being on two things and kept expecting River to appear!!grin. But I found the bit with the son odd and that they each went to see the same parent each time.

Indinana Thu 12-Nov-15 22:45:15

I've more or less given up on River, jings. I still sit in the living room when my DH watches it, and I sort of follow it with one ear and half an eye. It's not only confusing, but I'm afraid River himself just bloody irritates me, he's so darn weird. It's not just the 'seeing dead people' thing, it's everything about him. Creeps me out.
Don't be put off Unforgotten, despite this thread. It is worth watching.

Lona Thu 12-Nov-15 23:04:41

I thought it was good, but they're doing a second series so maybe it will be about the court case, and we'll find out more about the evil son!

Ana Thu 12-Nov-15 23:08:32

I don't think so, it'll probably be a new unsolved case.

Unless someone spotted something earlier in this series I suspect we'll never know the truth about this one (especially about the weird son).

tanith Thu 12-Nov-15 23:25:03

There is a recap of each episode to be read google

'Unforgotten episode one recap', or whichever episode you want 1 to 6

I found it very helpful and did clarify a few things for me .

tanith Thu 12-Nov-15 23:25:54

That website is The Guardian , I should of mentioned that..

Eloethan Fri 13-Nov-15 00:04:02

I was very pleased it didn't turn out to be totally depressing - at least the woman hadn't drowned in the Thames and that storyline was a bit more hopeful.

I did quite enjoy it but I too was puzzled by the ending and the son's behaviour.

numberplease Fri 13-Nov-15 16:50:30

I took it to mean that the son had inherited his mother`s psychotic tendencies, but I still think that it was a strange twist, as I was convinced that her husband was the guilty one. It was nice for Jimmy`s mother to finally have a grave to visit and tend. Still looking forward to the next series.

mollie Fri 13-Nov-15 18:31:48

I thought the son's anger was because if she had owned up all those years ago and reported the husband at the time then his family (the sons) wouldn't be upset and tainted by it all now. His parents were out of it (prison and hospital) but he, his wife and son would have to face the full glare of it - the battering on the door by press etc. At that point we didn't know she was accused but I wonder if he had other resentments, perhaps if she had been unstable and maybe cruel to them because of her priblems and not the nice but dithery mother we saw?

rosesarered Fri 13-Nov-15 22:11:40

I agree mollie I thought that must be the case ( that Mother had been unstable and maybe cruel) otherwise there seemed to be no justification for the son to behave like that, we can't have ALL missed something, surely?
Good, understated acting, a good plot/plots and credible dialogue that isn't mumbled, it can be done! Should be done more.grin Tom Courtney is a great actor and scene stealer.
