Is anyone else watching the new drama series, Dickensian on BBC1? I have just caught up on the first four episodes and am absolutely loving it. I've always been a Dickens fan and it is such fun recognising the characters and remembering in which book they originate. We are so lucky to have such wonderful character actors in this country and they are all brilliant in this!

I agree Gagagran and am enjoying every episode.Good acting and dialogue, and as you say,fun working out the characters and books.

I absolutely love it! I have rarely bought the DVD of a programme after I have seen it, but I will buy this one.

It will be a classic for years to come. The acting and characterisation are great. Like others it is fun spotting characters from the novels.

We missed the first two episodes but watched the third and then immediately watched the first two on catch up. We really enjoyed it! As long as they stay away from the actual events of any of the novels, I think it'll be fine. Like a mass prequel.

It's great isn't it, we are all glued to it. For the first time ever I visited the Charles Dickens Museum in London, what a treat that was. Now seeing this on television has just put the icing on the cake.

I have seen a bit of the first episode and did enjoy it, so will record and watch the rest. I haven't read every one of his books so will be stumped with some of the characters. Even those I have read were donkey years ago so they could take rereading.

I really like it but wouldn't have thought it was necessary to model Sarah Gamp on me though.

Very very clever script writer. Great cast and settings. Wish it wasn't in these odd half hour bits with half an hour in between though. Do they think we couldn't handle a whole hour?

Well I certainly could Jane as I watched the first four episodes back to back! Next one is on Friday but I think there are 20 episodes in total. It made me think that the Beeb should be doing another Dickens book asap - they always manage superb costumes, script, and acting.

I think I'll record it and watch it in longer sessions too!

I enjoyed it once I got used to it being a mash-up of so many characters. I did think, though, that Charles Dickens would probably be turning in his grave! smile

I saw the first episode, but my DD rang and I missed the end. I didn't bother with the other episodes and will watch them on cstch-up.

Loved it too. But I am fixated on the lack of footprints left by the pedestrians.
With so much too-ing and through-ing the paths should be really slushy by now.

J52 - I think I might get the DVDs too, it's a winner for me!

Just read that this'd is being scrapped after only one series. Audience dropped off and BBC must make cuts. I didn't watch it myself but remembered that some GN ers had liked it.

I am very disappointed to hear this. Both DH and I thoroughly enjoyed it and were looking forward to series two.

Maggiemaybe Thu 21-Apr-16 15:55:07

Ooooh! sad I hadn't actually thought there would be a second series, but now I know it was a possibility and they've decided against it, I feel like stamping my foot and pouting a bit. I recorded it and watched it on two Sunday afternoons while DH was out. It was such a treat.

I loved it; although I wasn't sure that a second series could possibly as good I still hoped there would be one sad.

Watched a couple of episodes and gave up. It clashed with another channel and wasn't worth recording IMO

What a shame when they continue to fund so much rubbish!
