My life has been really busy and now I've hit a bit of a quiet stretch, which is bliss. So I've become hooked on this Australian show every day (I think, I have it on series record). It's one of those sprawling (wealthy) family sagas full of simmering passions, hidden secrets and all the rest, complete with a matriarch running the show (of course!)

Am really enjoying the beautiful settings and the main location, a beautiful mansion out in Australian bush somewhere. It is set in the 1950s.

Am I the only one watching it? grin

RIP Prince

I've had to stay well away from this thread because I had fallen so far behind and was afraid of spoilers!

Have caught up with all now and found myself shouting at the screen sad grin

So worried about Sarah and the baby, and Elizabeth and Mr Goddard! Oh, my hat.

Anyway having finished this series I then watched the finale of Stella. No comparison but I do like Patrick Baladi, AND whoever plays Rob Morgan. Soooo, came the hospital scene, coupled with this song, it provided an excuse for a little "greet":

(Daft music video but lovely song).

So many cliffhangers........

Have now ordered the box set of series 1-3, but can't wait til series 4 airs!

Am I a very sad person with no life???

NanSue Thu 10-Mar-16 16:03:24

I discovered this series by chance when I was flicking through catch up and am completely hooked. I think I have managed to catch up on all of them so far and I'm so disappointed that the last one is today! I really hope we don't have to wait a whole year for the new one.

grannylyn65 Thu 10-Mar-16 15:49:01

Thats interesting ?

Marta Disseldorp, who plays Sarah so beautifully, is married in real life to Benjamin Winspear, who played her screen husband Rene. Apparently she found filming those last scenes very difficult.

Oh dear... seems as if we've got a bit of a wait to see Regina get her comeuppance. I'm sure she will, but.....?

Margsus Wed 09-Mar-16 21:02:47

I found the scenes dealing with Sarah's mourning after Rene's death very moving. Being Jewish myself, I felt that they did it beautifully.

I've decided to treat myself to the DVD of series 1-3, that should keep me going until series 4 is aired in the UK!

Marmight Wed 09-Mar-16 20:43:13

I watched this on BBC2 during the winter of 2014/15 and was hooked, although I did become confused with the story line occasionally! Series 4 is ready to air in Oz this year, so I suppose we won't get it in the UK for at least another year ......

Marelli Wed 09-Mar-16 20:15:33

Thank you, Margsus. I so wish I'd known about the series and watched it right from the start! smile

Meant to add - Wouldn't Regina make a marvellous Cruella De Vil? She has such a beautiful but spiteful face, and she ponders, schemes and then pounces so well. Love her make-up, hair and clothes.

Spoiler from today's episode warning!

I really enjoy it! I am hooked. I watch it on catch-up. I allow myself a long leisurely breakfast (when I am not working) so I can curl up on the sofa and warch it. I would be upset now if I missed an episode. The mean, scheming Regina has just hooked George, who doesn't know his true love, Sarah, is now a widow!

It's very much a soap opera, with an ever-twisting plot, but a glorious one. The incredible figures of all the (younger) women and the beautiful dresses they wear has me enthralled. It's a wonderful period-piece and I find myself really wanting all the nice characters to be happy. I now like and feel for Elizabeth Bligh too. How did that happen?

It's one I'll watch again I suspect. It's up there with Downton Abbey for me. Wonderful television. Well done BBC2 for bringing this to us.

Very moving episode today ?

Margsus Wed 09-Mar-16 16:36:49

Right Marelli, are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin.....

Sarah and George broke up because it was discovered (can't remember who by) that Sarah's husband had not been killed by the Nazis as she thought, but was still alive, living with his sister in Paris. Sarah dashed off to Paris to see him, only to discover that he was ill with what appeared to be post-traumatic stress - and bullet fragments in his brain. She brought him back to Inverness to recover. If you've seen the last couple of episodes you'll know what happens next.

If I've got anything wrong, no doubt someone will correct me...

The final episode of series 3 is tomorrow. Love this programme, and was thrilled to hear that series 4 has just started filming!

Marelli Wed 09-Mar-16 15:50:06

Discovered Series 3 on BBC2. Can anyone give me a brief rundown on how Sarah and Mr. Bligh broke up, and how Rene came back into Sarah's life, please? I managed to see some of the first series, up until the young Italian and Miss Bligh got engaged and she went away to the city to find some contraception.... smile

ninathenana Fri 26-Feb-16 00:07:27

Punctuation is all wrong in that post, sorry blush

ninathenana Fri 26-Feb-16 00:05:58

René and George struggled over the rifle when George found him about to commit suicide. Regina picked it up after I'd already decided that smile and that's what she eventually told that pig of a cop.
Yes ,the new maid is Georgie's mum.

Nanabelle Thu 25-Feb-16 22:30:52

I reckon the two men were fighting and Regina meant to shoot the French man, but got the wrong one. Quite a troubling sad episode today - so much possible trouble ahead for everyone.

pollyparrot Thu 25-Feb-16 17:46:56

Yes, I think she's the mother of the baby. Does anyone wonder who actually shot George? Regina?

Mamie Thu 25-Feb-16 17:40:10

Yup, I reckon that is who she is too. grin
Getting a bit cross about the cod French though. Yesterday they were saying, j'adore... to each other. J'adore what? Les Kangourous?

HannahLoisLuke Thu 25-Feb-16 16:59:53

Anyone else thinking the same as I am about the new maid?

Marelli Thu 25-Feb-16 07:36:37

After seeing you all talking about it here, I found 'A Place to Call Home' on On Demand ( Virgin). Really enjoying it, and have so far watched 7 episodes of the first series. We weren't able to find it on Netflix though, grannylin65 confused. I'll need to try and find out how to record series 3.

ninathenana Thu 25-Feb-16 00:34:48

We'll find out today (Thursday) smile
Won't spoil it but I think he did it question is did he mean too or was there a struggle.
He has to survive or the story is dead.

Nanabelle Thu 25-Feb-16 00:16:34

for Today's episode - read Wednesday's - ….. how I wish we had an edit button!

Nanabelle Thu 25-Feb-16 00:15:45

oh my - what a shocker today's episode was. Really didn't expect that. I wonder where the story will go now?
