I watched the first series because it was compulsive viewing, but found it v disturbing. Now I'm thinking, Do I watch the next, or leave it alone? Out of interest ,does anyone else share that view.

The number of detectives was because a murder squad made up of CID from various other local areas had been assembled in Hebden as a result of a serial killer.
Of course Iam - and, if it is like our own nearly empty police station, there would be plenty of room for staff to assemble there when serious crimes have been committed.

Just watched it on catch up...brilliant drama.. look forward to series 3 fingers crossed.

Going to have a ride to Hebden in the better weather, need to find the locations where they filmed.

Wonderful last episode, with Catherine wondering if Ryan would turn out like Tommy Lee when he grew up ( I assume.)

Ne'then Lully Dully, don't be facetious, it were a fair representation of life int'valley.

LullyDully Wed 16-Mar-16 20:32:09

It was great.

I was waiting for the advice phone number at the end, in case I had been affected personally , but I imagine they couldn't decide which problem to help with first.

The letter to his dad from Ryan ought to have been stopped by the prison censor. My real life experience (work wise) was that in reality, the prison censor fails on a regular basis to stop letters that shouldn't be going out or in because of child protection issues. I worked with one little girl whose father (he'd sexually abused her) managed to get letters out of prison to her, via a relative, despite stringent attempts by myself, her mother, probation etc etc to stop this.

The number of detectives was because a murder squad made up of CID from various other local areas had been assembled in Hebden as a result of a serial killer.

The final scenes with John were classic weren't they. Pathos, tragedy, dark humour - glorious!

gettingonabit Wed 16-Mar-16 17:24:12

jalima the whole of the final scenes with John were funny, in a subversive kind of way, imho. Firstly, he drives down a dead end, then he sets off down the tracks with Catherjne and pc plod in hot pursuit, then pc plod falls flat on his facegrin. Having seemingly run for miles, he ends up bang in front of the police station on a bridge being talked down by a copper who fluffs the suicide prevention speech. All a bit Charlie Chaplinesque. Not sure if it was meant to be funnyhmm.

And shouldn't the traffic have been stopped?

tanith Wed 16-Mar-16 16:51:56

Roses I did say his post had been censored.

trisher Wed 16-Mar-16 15:51:12

Re the TA and DBS check etc. Of course the only real and effective member of the police force is Catherine, the rest don't know their a... from their elbow! So anything could happen! I assume in the next series she will be single handedly tackling the Polish mafia that was mentioned. The rest will just stand and watch!

rosesarered Wed 16-Mar-16 15:40:43

All letters are censored for prisoners.

tanith Wed 16-Mar-16 15:14:54

One thing is puzzling me, Tommy Lee in prison got post that had obviously been 'censored' by the staff and then handed to him. Would they allow post from his son Ryan given the circumstances?

Jalima Wed 16-Mar-16 15:07:04

Especially as it was mentioned that the HT was very meticulous about following up references .....

and she tried to talk him down from the bridge without training
That was a moment of black humour though - John had been trained and Catherine asked him what she was supposed to be saying to him!

gettingonabit Wed 16-Mar-16 15:03:34

lucky I was thinking of the DBS check too. Surely the application would have thrown up the fact that the applicant was deceasedhmm

Luckygirl Wed 16-Mar-16 14:36:28

I do agree that the way the TA stole someone else's identity was a bit weird - I would have thought that those approached for references might have been able to remember that the lady had died.

Charleygirl Wed 16-Mar-16 13:59:27

There appears to be a new Danish thriller on this Saturday in place of Trapped. It is a double with sub titles. I have no idea if that is that or if there are more episodes like in Trapped. I cannot remember the title but it is on BBC4 at 9pm on Saturday for 2 hours.

Thanks ana and jalima. That must've been a particularly mumbly bit (I think it was around Becky's grave, said to Claire?).

I'm with trisher on the Catherine issue. I'm surprised she hasn't been sacked for insubordination. She was categorically told not to pursue John down the tracks, and she tried to talk him down from the bridge without training. She may well have caused his death (which may not be quite such a bad thing) but he won't be able to stand trial.

She did the same thing ay the end of series 1 too; she went in after TLR against the orders of her bosses, whilst already been in trouble for something else.

LullyDully Wed 16-Mar-16 12:30:53

My confusion was how the hell the TA got to work in a school. Surely a police check would have shown up her dead sister. They are super careful. OFSTED would be down on the Head like a ton of bricks.

How does the policewoman keep sane with all she has been through? Exciting TY however.

All the good stuff is coming to an end. at once....what to watch?

harrigran Wed 16-Mar-16 11:05:21

It was a busy police station. The market town, where my second home is, has a police station that is open only on weekdays and for a certain number of hours each day.

Ana Wed 16-Mar-16 10:35:03

gettingonabit, Daryl's mother told Catherine that her father had 'interfered with her' and that Daryl was the result, and why they had kept to themselves and been mocked by the other villagers.

We didn't see her actually saying this, Catherine was telling someone else about it.

Jalima Wed 16-Mar-16 10:33:37

Yes, that's right gettingonabit (that's what iam said I think).

gettingonabit Wed 16-Mar-16 10:30:24

iam I don't know how, but I somehow missed the bit where the mother told Darryl he'd been abused. I actually thought that the mother had bern abused by her father and had then given birth to Ryan. I need to watch again.....

Jalima Wed 16-Mar-16 10:30:21

Correction - there are a lot of detectives but not many police!

Jalima Wed 16-Mar-16 10:16:08

There seem to be a lot of police for a small town
Ours are very thin on the ground

POGS Wed 16-Mar-16 10:15:33

That was to Trisher by the way

POGS Wed 16-Mar-16 10:14:38

Well she only had 6 hours to do it all in. confused
